Configuring Your Audio Setup

Metro supports digital audio on Macintosh computers. For the purposes of this tutorial, connect your Macintosh audio output to an input of your mixing board or some other source set up for monitoring the output signal.

To configure your audio setup:

  1. Choose Digital Audio from the Setup menu.

The Digital Audio Setup dialog box appears.

  1. Under For Metro Digital Audio, do one of the following:

    • Click Direct Support and choose Built-in from the Direct Support popup menu. This configures Metro to use Core Audio's (or under OS 9 Sound Manager's) built-in audio capabilities. Metro requires Sound Manager 3.2 or higher.

    • Click Direct Support and choose your external soundcard from the popup menu.

    • Under OS 9, click ASIO and choose your external soundcard from the popup list of ASIO devices, if you have downloaded and installed your soundcard’s ASIO driver. We recommend ASIO as a first choice.

  1. Set the Sample Rate to 44100 and the Bits to 16 (see your soundcard’s documentation for more options for sample rates and bits).

  2. If using a Metro version earlier than 6.1, Select the Stereo checkbox so that Metro will record stereo interleaved AIFF audio files.

  3. Click Device Options to open either your soundcard’s control console (if any) or dialog box.

  4. In the ensuing dialog box, parameters specific to your audio card can be set. Some cards allow you to configure Playthrough, set Input Gain, or set other options (the dialog box looks different for each soundcard you select in the Digital Audio Setup dialog box).

  5. Click OK enough times to get back to the Digital Audio Setup dialog box and if using OS 9, make sure For connecting to Deck II is unchecked (for now).

  6. Click OK to close the Digital Audio Setup dialog box.

You have set Metro to work with either your Mac’s internal soundcard, an external soundcard, or an external soundcard with anASIO driver.

The next step in your first session is Creating New Outputs.
