Kawai MP7 MMC Transport question

Postby fastlanephil » Tue May 06, 2014 12:28 pm

Hi Jeremy,

I got the new Kawai MP7 piano controller to replace my Yamaha P-140 for a much better piano key bed like the Yamaha CP4 has and you can also change the keys touch mode for a organ type of response when playing in non-percussive instruments. A Kawai support person posted that the MP7 can be used as transport controller with your DAW using it's recording controls. I've tried to set it up but I don't see anywhere in the MP7 edit window where you can assign 0-127 numbers that are in Metro's Transport window. I might just prop up my Axion 49 between the MP7 and my monitor stand or get a Korg nanoKRONTROL2 if it's a problem. I'm including a screen shot of what the MP7 manual says.

Does it look doable?

Thanks

I don't think it is currently possible. If I recall correctly MMC commands are system exclusive based and Metro's remote control does not respond to sysex. If Kawai sends me a loaner I would be glad to add support for it.

That would be great if they would send you one to work with. I think they are just starting to ramping up production but it probably wouldn't hurt to put in a request and see what happens.

This the Kawai Electronic and Digital Technical Support email address.

I just got a message from Kawai support. "We would be happy to send you an MP7 loaner but we are currently out of stock. Once we have some inventory again I can get back with you and arrange that if you like. I expect we will be looking at late June"

So you should have support by July if they send me a loaner in June.

That's very good news Jeremy! I hope all goes well.

I'm trying to master all it's features but it's going to be mainly a DAW controller and piano for me.

Hi Jeremy,

The weather is soon gong to chase me back inside so

I was wondering if anything came about getting a MP7 loaner from Kawai for the onboard MMC DAW control possibility.

I sent back my first MP7 back to Sweetwater for a swap because the often used A3 key was a little noisy.

Unfortunately they never sent me a loaner. I will email them again.

Again I contacted Kawai and again they were responsive. Unfortunately they are back-ordered again. They want me to contact them again in 30 days. So we shall see what happens.

Well, hang in there. You might get lucky.

It's a very nice piano controller for the price. It sounds great with studio headphones.

Thanks
