Burned Again By NI

I purchased the recently released version of Stadivari Solo Violin 2.0. I thought the new Kontakt player would be free from the CPU problems of the original player. After I installed it I tried to authorize it but just got a circular error message. It will still function for 30 days.

Then I tried to use it and it did work great for about three minutes and then it shuts down MIDI so you have to quit every thing and disconnect the MIDI connection from your Mac. That gives you another three minutes of playing.

I don't understand how something this buggy was released and sold to users.

I expect a new DVD not just a download for this screw up.

Are you using the Kontakt player standalone or within Metro? Try using it the other way, if possible.

It locks up either within Metro or as a stand alone. I can see it takes some time to learn how to use it so the stand alone is way to go for now and it's quick to get it working again.

There were a number of new and updated Garritan Products that were suppose to be ready for holiday the holidays but so far they have nothing new to offer.

As I come to think about it I suspect that maybe NI has blocked product registration until the issues are fixed, possibly at Garritan's request.

Garritan posted a thread about the new player being full of bugs. He isn't a happy camper. I think this is more a software year as many people will be investing in Vista loaded PCs and MacPros, ect next year.

NI's excuse is that they don't have enough people right now for the amount of work needed. I've read that Germany's labor laws discourage hiring.

I don't know what's going to come down with the Garritan-NI partnership but I'm sure Gary Garritan is going to make it right.

Well at least Sampletank 2.2.1 seems to be working quite well on Intel Macs.

It looks like NI fixed their Kontakt 2.0 player. I'm sure Garritan explained to them his options.

Their registration software also had some bugs which they denied until I sent them some picts showing what was wrong. I think they are trying to do too much with too few people. I couldn't operate that way.

I'm glad ST2 UB is solid. It's still the best multi sounds library out there. I love the expressive brass.
