Virtual Instruments & Fast Foward

Fast forwarding MIDI tracks with virtual instruments produces a chip monk effect. Is it possible to make them play faster but in the same pitch like a hardware instrument or is this the way it has to work.

It is possible but technically challenging and would probably require a faster CPU than some users have.
