midi connection

I thought I understood midi hook ups but i am stuck.

Until I get my usb m-audio 8x8 I have to work with a one midi IN/OUT interface using my audiophile 2496 PCI card installed in my G4 .

This is OK for working just with one midi device.

However I need to connect my keyboard and a hard disk recorder to do some syn recording.

The keyboard and hard disk recorder only have midi in/out ports. No thru ports on either units.

Will this midi in/out cableing work:

keyboard OUT to 2496 IN

2496 OUT to recorder IN

recorder OUT to keyboard IN

If you've tried it and it doesn't I guess the answer is no.

What do you use the HD recorder for if you use a computer sequencer?

Is the USB 8x8 8 midi in and outs?

I have not tried it because I've discovered that my Yamaha keyboard seems to go out sync when midi data is wrong. When that happens I have to reset the settings .

Why am I using the HD recorder ?

I transfer the audio tracks from projects created in DigitalPerformer and now Metro to seperate audio tracks in my HD audio recorder. Of couse, I am limited to 16 audio tracks. These are my backing tracks when I do special gigs outside the studio.

In OS 9 or 8.6 ( using my Apple9600/Sonnetized ) I use my VS-1680 as an "audio card" with LOGIC because LOGIC + a freebe software allows full control (via midi) of the VS-1680 without squinting at the LCD on the VS.

I have not had the time to explore the possabilty of using my VS-1680 or AW16G recorders as "audio" cards with either DP or Metro. It seems to me that I should be able to so do albeit they may not offer the features of controlling the VS similar to LOGIC. I think that feature was done in partnership with Roland. At the time I purchased my VS Roland was offering a special free full version of LOGIC that would only run with the VS .

At the moment LOGIC is tooo pricey for me and LOGIC (Apple) sales tell me that they do not accept/offer upgrades. So much for loyalty.
