SampleTank and Metro Authorization problem workaround!

Postby Jerm » Mon Apr 28, 2003 11:52 am

This workaround will install SampleTank without having to go through the authorization dialog (which currently crashes in Metro 100% of the time).

The file is called "SampleTank Settings" (or possibly "SampleTank Settings.txt"), and is in your (personal) preference folder.
It can be edited with any text file editor.

Make sure it has the following lines:
ProductSerial = [serial]
RegistrationCode = [code]

The digital ID that you see in the registration box does not need to be written.
Replace [serial] with your serial number and [code] with The AUTHORIZATION CODE supplied by IK Multimedia!

But where do you get the serial number for SampleTank free. All I can get/find is the digital id and authorization code.

Also, in the authorization dialog there is no field for the code, only fields for "serial number" and "registration". Does the authorization code go into the registration field? Man, they really screwed this up.

BTW, I've been playing around with ST in "unauthorized mode" and it's AWESOME!!! I can't wait to get an external keyboard controller up and running!! The free "Brain Damage" and "Rotary Organ" are KILLER! And the effects I've listened to so far are great too. The rotary speaker is swirl heaven IMHO. 8)

Have you registered sampletank free with them?

Maybe they email a copy with a serial number in it.

I have been to the site and after a bit of a search found the sampletank free registration page (different to all other versions).

I recently wrote a note to Sampletank tech support, and they sent me the response below. The top portion is their response, and my initial message to them is below that. I thought the users in this forum would be interested to know that all parties involved seem to be addressing this issue! :)

Sean,

Hey, there seems to be some weird thing with ST and Metro we are checking it out now. So hang on.

Thanks

Subject: Can't Authorize Sampletank Free

Could you please tell me how to authorize my copy of Sampletank Free for OSX. The authorization screen always crashes. I also input the data directly into the .txt file, but that didn't help me either. I am very interested in your product, and I know it is a new version for OSX, but I am becoming a little frustrated. Will you be releasing a version soon that can be authorized? If so, I'll just wait to try it out then. Jeremy Sagan (of Sagan Technologies, maker of Metro) turned me on to your product, and I'm very excited to try it out.

Thank you very much,
Sean Seaton

I can't find a serial number for my STFree download anywhere. I've registered, but the email reply only contained the digital id and authorization code. I can't find a serial number in the ST application either.

As far as I can tell, no serial number for STFree exists. Moreover, the readme instructions on authorizing don't match up with the authorization dialog in the app (e.g., there is no field to type in the auth. code).

I'm stuck with 6-note polyphony.

Mark,

You could try calling Jason (IK Multimedia Support) at the number posted above.

I'm beginning to wonder if the serial number is available and visible in OS9 and not OSX. It could be one of those things they need to iron out.

Just a thought.......may or may not be true though.

What's the status of this issue? I emailed IK support several days ago and they haven't replied. I've haven't tried calling yet. I'll try Jason directly.

Sean, have they gotten back to you on authorizing ST Free yet?

I have not heard back from the folks at Sampltank yet. I went to their Web site, and I haven't seen any indication of changes in the authorization process. The only correspondence I have ever had from Sampletank is posted above.

Just got this reponse from Jason. Haven't tried it yet. I'm assuming it's ok to share this with everyone, since this is for the free version of ST.

Mark,

Try this serial # STF10-81JU01AZ-52019

There is a wierd problem with Metro and ST so we are looking into it.

Thanks

Well, it still crashes

I entered the serial number in the serial number field (duh) and the authorization code in the registration field. So far nobody has explained to me what the "Registration" field refers to, so I assumed that is where the authorization code goes, since there is no field labeled "Authorization Code" like the readme file refers to.

Even though it's been fun checking it out with 6-note polyphony, the frustration of the authorization process is driving me nuts. They don't appear to have even tested the authorization dialog, or the person who wrote the instructions hasn't even seen the ST authorization dialog. That "registration" field, and no "authorization code" field really pisses me off. :x It's not THAT difficult to make your instructions match what the user sees on screen!

Sorry for ranting, but...

Mark,

Try entering the data into the sampletank free settings file and thereby avoiding the registration dialog.

Mark, have you read the top message in this thread?

If you put the codes into the sampletank settings.txt file and save it, you do not have to open the crashing dialog box at all and you end up with 32 note poly. :D
