MOTU 828 Mk III Hybrid mix busses

Postby cornutt » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:10 pm

After a very long time of of using my old G4-based system as is, I'm finally upgrading. A new i7 Mini has replaced the old G4. And my old Mk I 828, after many years of reliable service, finally gave up the ghost and it has been replaced by a bright shiny new 828 Mk III Hybrid.

My question is: is there any way to make the MkIII's internal CueMix busses available as inputs to Metro? It would be nice if there was, because then I could do some mixing inside the 828 (mixer, submixer, and two synths that can output SMPTE) instead of everything having to get funneled to the mixer so that it all appears on one set of inputs at the 828. So far I haven't had much time to play with it, but it looks like the only input choices in Metro are the 828's inputs -- the busses don't show up.

This would be a question to ask MOTU. Whatever you see in the Audio side of AudioMIDI setup, should be available in Metro.

I suspected that was the answer, but I thought I'd ask. The Mk III is a lot more complex than my old Mk I, where basically you chose an input and and output and that was that. I'll keep reading.

Today I finally resigned myself to the cold, hard fact: Aggregate devices in OS X (Mountain Lion, but also in Lion) are apparently not going to work for me. If I create an aggregate with both Rig Kontrol 3 and the built-in outlets, the audio gets seriously broken, either digitally degraded or dreadfully delayed. So, I have to use Rig Kontrol as Rig Kontrol wants to be used: as the primary input, with its headphone jack being the primary output.
