Metro snap, crackle, pop

Postby Krushzone » Mon Oct 23, 2006 9:57 am

Metro 6.3.6. with Tiger had been working fine. But after very recently installing Quicktime free upgrade 7.1.3 and iTunes 7,
I now experience "crackling" and "popping" during Metro playback.
(Same song files. Nothing else has changed.)

Sorry, I don't know what "version" of QT was previously active.
Funny thing is, iTunes doesn't snap, crackle & pop. But Metro now does.

Has anyone else had this misfortune from installing the latest Quicktime and\or iTunes 7?

What is your setting in digital audio:device options:Audio Buffer Packet Size?

What machine are you running? What version/flavor of Metro?

Do you have any tracks assigned to 'internal' instruments? Have you experienced this problem directly after rebooting and before running any other apps?

I have 10.4.8 and Quicktime 7.1.3 but it is on a MacBook pro. 6.3.7 willl most likely alleviate this problem although it still should not happen. You may be running out of memory if you are running other apps or networking software.

- No.

- Rebooting, etc. not relevant.

The event that occured to cause this is exclusively the installation of the latest Quicktime and iTunes 7. Nothing else has changed.

These are not "hiccups", or "hesitation". Just Pops and Snaps occuring during otherwise smooth audio playback.

Try reselecting your audio device in digital audio setup and digital audio device options.

Does this happen on all audio files or soft-synths? when playing back in the jukebox?

I have tried changing audio devices, to no avail. Whether I use my trusty Behringer FCA202 audio breakout box, or remove that professional device, reboot, and simply plug headphones directly into the standard Mac mini 1/8" jack, I still hear the random crakle-pops during playback. It is as if the latest Quicktime has changed some deeply rooted core audio processing behavior. I would simply "uninstall" the latest Quicktime if possible.

Yes all audio files. Sorry not familiar with soft-synth or jukebox.

Go to the jukebox window and from the first popup select a folder has MP3's and AIF's in it. Then press play.

OK, thanks. All sounded good. No snap, no crackle, no pop.

Well I am curious then. What is it you are trying to play back?

If you start with a new document and then drag one of the files that plays fine in the jukebox over to the graphic editor and then press play does it still play fine?

It may be that you have conflicting automation in your document or something like that. Perhaps you should create the smallest possible document that exhibits the problem and then email me a Metro Bundle file document.
