Where does the manual say to place them? I think AU presets are supposed to be placed in /Users/username/Library/Audio/Presets/manufacturersfolder
or /Library/Audio/Presets/manufacturersfolder

of course manufacturersfolder should be a folder with the name of the manufacturer and username should be your username.

If they are standard plug-in presets then they should appear in Metro's plug-in window.

I downloaded ritmo and I got it working ok.

Here's a way to make it accessible to every user on your computer.

Install the ritmo.component at yourharddiskname/library/audio/plug-ins/components/ (these are the folder names to open)

- for now don't install anything else. What we will do next is find where the presets are located.

- open metro and place ritmo on a track

- go into metro's effects window and select the popup to do a 'Save Preset As..."

- when the dialog box opens choose 'Local' and not 'User'

- save preset as a unique name like 'abc123'

- go into the finder and search for abc123

- you will find it at yourharddiskname/library/audio/presets/manyetas/ritmo/

- go back to your installion disk and throw all your drumkits that came with ritmo into this ritmo location above.

You may have to quit metro and start it again but now all the ritmo drumkits appear as presets in metro's effects window popup when you place ritmo on a track now.

I think maybe the original problem might have been the ritmo component being "local" and the presets being "user" based......or the other way round. I do not know if that situation would stop ritmo from finding the presets, but the solution above worked for me.

I have a folder of aliases on my dock for quick access.
One of the aliases is the /library/audio/plug-ins/components/ folder so I know I am always placing audio units in the same location. Another alias is /library/audio/presets/. The third one is an idea I got from the metro folder......the VST plug-ins alias.

thanks scoot for your help.. but i did everything you just wrote 3 times now and nothing.. i tried again to put the presets in the users section and then local again.. but neither work for me... i don't understand what we could be doing differently. are you using metro G4? is this different from other metro's? well thanks for the effort.. any other tips would be welcome!!

I am on Metro G4 which just means it could handle more tracks or more effects before maxing out the CPU due to being altivec aware.....than Metro non G4.
It would not affect the outcome here.

Metro SE would allow less effect busses, but if you only have one, than that can't be the problem either.

I am in OSX 10.2.6
If you're in 10.2.8 or 10.3 there might be a difference.
If you are in 10.3......is ritmo compatible yet?

Because it works for me, there must be something specific if your setup that is causing the problem......or is different to mine.

If you have placed the ritmo.component in the correct folder, startup metro and take the ritmo plugin across to a track.
In the effects window, click and hold down on the Save Preset As....

What is visible here?
There should be some options here.
If not we have found the first problem.

hi scoot..
i am in 10.2.7
also using metro G4
when i place ritmo as a plug in on a track and hit the save preset from the menu.. it takes me to a file directory of my whole computer i can choose anywhere. when i navigate to the presets/manyetas/ritmo folder i see all the preset drum kits but they are not available on the drop down menu!? i have tried to save them in both the harddrive library folder and the users library folder.. with the ritmo component in each area as well.. here is what the author of the ritmo had to say.. although this wouldn't make much sense beings as you were able to see and load all the presets:

"I think Metro doesn't support the standard .aupreset AudioUnit preset file format. I've had requests to add support for the Metro format to the Logic Preset Convert tool (guess I'd have to change the name).

So for now there may simply not be any way to use standard presets in Metro... you can probably only use those created in Metro itself."

very frustrating!!
thanks for your insight

You clicked on Save Preset As......but did you hold down on it?

Cause when I have ritmo installed and nothing else from the installer, I see tr-606 or something like that sitting IN the pop up menu below.
When I place the other items that came with the installer, they all appear in the list as well.

Or are we talking about 2 different things here and there is a difference between the ritmo kits that come with it and the presets you're talking about?

6.1 is the latest pre-release of Metro. 6.1.0.4 to be exact. 6.1.0.5 is due out shortly. For more info see our announcements section!
