Soundfont sites no longer available

Postby Jazzdude » Fri Oct 24, 2003 10:07 pm

I'm just getting into using soundfonts, which sound great when used with the built in DLS synth, but am having a lot of trouble finding websites where these can be downloaded. Hammersound.net has a page with more than 50 links to pages where soundfonts can be downloaded, but from what I have seen, most of these pages can no longer be accessed. The soundsite.net page listed on the Metro links page cannot be accessed as well.

I'm only guessing that many of the "free" soundfonts that have been available are pirated copies and offering them to others on the net constitutes a violation of copyright laws, therefore they have been pulled.
If so, I'm disappointed that they are no longer available, but I have to agree that it is not fair to those who produce soundfonts for profit to have them ripped off and made available to everyone free of charge.

Yeah. I do not know the status of soundfonts and copyright and such but the soundsite is notoriously hard to reach and has been for some time. I do not know if that means it is out of existence or not.

The only ones I have seen lately, are the set of 3 that are available from the crystal website.

For some reason they don't play 100% with metro either......like the ethnic set shows about 10 instruments and only a few of them play. The rest sound like clicks when you mouse drag over the piano roll in the graphic editor.

Do not download any soundfonts which state -

The SoundFont you are downloading has been compressed with the sfArk SoundFont compression program. If you haven't allready installed this program on your computer, please download it from www.melodymachine.com

They don't work.

Hammersound soundfont library page

Postby Jazzdude » Sun Oct 26, 2003 7:55 am

Scoot,

Thanks for the link to this page. I had totally overlooked it in my search for soundfonts. I only saw the page with links to other sites. Looks like there's lots of stuff here. This is great! Once again, the words of my mother ring true in my ears, "You just didn't look hard enough!".
