Using Song Building Mode in Replace

Song building mode
in Replace allows you to record in a specific range of a Section again and again, each pass you record going to a separate track. The numberof tracks you can record depends on the number of record tracks you specify inthe Record/Play dialog box (Setup menu). You record enable one track to be the base record track, and thenMetro automatically record-enables the appropriate record tracks in order. Forexample, if you specify 6 record tracks in the Record/Play dialog box, and choose Track 2 as the initial record track, then Tracks 3, 4,5, 6, 7 will be the additional loop record tracks.

To record in Song building mode in Replace:

  1. Choose Record/Play from the Setup menu to open the Record and Play Setupdialog box.

  2. Under Record Loop Setup click Song Building mode.

  3. Enter in the Tracks maximum when loop recording field the number of tracksthat you want to loop record.

  4. Under Record Mode click Replace and click OK.

  5. In the Transport window (Command-B), set the loop record range by clicking thedoor of the Punch icon (lower right corner) to open the Punch In/Out dialogbox. Enter In and Out locations and click OK (you can also drag a loop recordrange in the Graphic Editor window).

  1. Record enable a track in the Tracks window by clicking its 'R' column.

The first loop pass you record will go to the track you initially record enable, called the 'base' track. Each loop you record thereafter will go to the next unused higher numbered track in chronological order.

  1. In the Transport window, check the Loop Record checkbox to enable looprecording.

  2. Click Record or press Option-RMet90000.gifrecording begins as Metro receives MIDI data, and as soon as the Counterreaches the Punch In time (if Punch Record in enabled).

You'll see the Record Loop dialog box appear, displaying the number of remaining record tracks. The Record Loop and Cue Loop settings are saved with Preferences.

  1. Play your controller to record your tracks.

If you want to reject the last recorded loop track, click the Reject Last Track button in the Record Loop dialog box; to reject multiple tracks in reversechronological order, continue to click the Reject Last Track button.

If you want to mute the last track, click the Mute Last Track button; to mute multiple tracks, click in the Tracks window's Mute column on the appropriate tracks

If you want to pause at any time, click Pause Recording.

In the Tracks window, you'll notice that the same number of tracks as you specified in the Record/Play dialog box appear with the name 'Loop Record Track..' All tracks initially appear muted except the current Record track.

When the last loop record track is recorded, recording stops and the RecordLoop dialog box closes.

To name your tracks:

  1. Option-click a Track Name and type the new name.

  2. Press the Enter key to move to the next Track Name field to name the next higher numbered track.

  3. Press the Return key or click on another track to exit from Track Name mode.
