Tap Tempo Tap Tempo allows you to tap a tempo by pressing a key on your MIDI controller or your Macintosh keyboard. Metrocalculates the average value of every two notes, or beats, that you tap. Metroassumes each note is a quarter note. The Tap Tempo dialog box must be open in order for this feature to function; each averaged value isdisplayed as Metro calculates it. If you want to use the Tap Tempo dialog box as a calculator only, you cansimply use it while in Play or while stopped. Then, if you choose to enter thataveraged tempo as an event, you can do so manually in the Section Event Editorwindow or Tempo dialog box. If you want to take full advantage of Tap Tempo, you'll use it during recording, listening to existing tracks playback as you record a new tempo map for the selected Section. Metro records all averaged tempos as a series of Tempo events, which are displayed in the Section Event Editor window. To record a tap tempo: Choose Record Criteria from the Setup menu and check Tempo Changes to enablethe recording of Tempo events. Choose Record/Play from the Setup menu, click Count off and enter a count-off of several bars before recording so you'll have enough time to open the Tap Tempo dialog box and prepare yourself for recording. Record enable a track by clicking its Record column, which is located under the 'R' in the Tracks window. Click Record or press Option-R. Choose Tap Tempo from the Setup menu. The Tap tempo dialog box appears. Wait until the count-off finishes and then tap the desired tempo either by pressing a key on your MIDI controller or on your Macintosh keyboard (you'll get more accurate results when using a MIDI controller). Notice the averaged tempo is displayed in the Tap Tempo dialog box as you tap. Click OK and stop recording when you're satisfied. Choose Section Event Editor from the Windows menu to view or edit the Tempoevents you recorded.
