Harmony

Using the Harmony dialog box allows you to generate up to four parallelharmony lines that relate to the key and scale of the selected notes.

To generate harmony lines:

  1. In the Graphic Editor or Tracks Overview, select the melody you want toharmonize.

  2. From the Options menu, choose Harmony.

The Harmony dialog box appears.

  1. Choose either:

    • In the Key of, if you want parallel diatonic harmony

    • Choose a key and scale for your diatonic harmony in the two fields next to theIn the Key of button.

    • Chromatically, if you want parallel chromatic harmony

  1. Enter the harmony line’s Root Note, which may be the same as the key signature, or a harmonicallyrelated note.

  2. Check the number of harmonies you want (from 1 to 4) in the checkboxes underHarmony relative to the Root.

  3. Assign the harmony to a track by entering the track number in the box labeledPlace harmony starting at Track. The name of the track will be displayed tothe right of the track number. If data already exists in that track, the newdata will be merged with the existing data.

  4. If you want to assign each line to an independent track, check the Assignharmony to independent tracks box. The first harmony line will be placed on the track you entered in thePlace harmony starting at Track box. The second harmony line will be placed onthe next higher-numbered track, the third harmony line will be placed on thenext, and so on.

  5. Click OK.
