Demo Limitations?

Postby sseaton » Fri Feb 21, 2003 1:48 pm

I noticed in the demo that I only get 16 MIDI tracks and 4 audio tracks. Is the demo the same as the SE version?

Also, I can record on tracks 1 & 2 just fine. I am using the internal QuickTime sounds. But when I go in to pick a sound for track 3, my tracks 1 and/or 2 sounds change.

Are there some limitations with this demo that leads to this problem? Am I'm doing something wrong?

I am really close to buying the SE version. 16 MIDI tracks and 4 audio tracks is plenty for what I want to do.

Thanks for everyone's help, and I hope to be using Metro soon.

No. You should have 99 tracks per section in the demo and up to 64 audio tracks. MIDI is limited to 16 channels on a given port. This is the MIDI specification. Metro uses internal channels 1-15 for QuickTime musical instruments.

In order for the sounds to be independent, MIDI data on different tracks must be sent to different channels. Go to the special menu, select modify instruments and busses and create 16 instruments on port: internal. Then select the appropriate instrument from the instrument popup in the graphic editor. Make sure to select different instruments for different tracks, e.g. track 1 -> internal-1, track 2 -> internal-2, track 3 -> internal 10 (drums are automagically assigned to channel 10)
