Metro + Garageband sounds

Postby mikejk » Wed May 03, 2006 3:48 am

I asked recently to Jeremy why I can't use garageband sounds in Metro as it is possible with Logic (naturally). He told me «I don't know. Have you asked Apple?».
I didn't. I would be surprised to get an answer.
So, if someone could tell me why it doesn't work, or what to do to profit of those good sounds, it would be great.
Thanks
Mike

If you are talking about "Apple Loops", you can easily drag them into Metro's graphic editor. If there are no tracks when you do that, Metro will try to calculate the tempo of the loop.

I'd like to use the instruments from the jam packs.

Hi mikejk,

Although Garageband supports standard AU instruments, the instruments that ship with it (and those included in the Jam Packs) are proprietry - they will work only with Garageband, Logic Express, and the more recent versions of Logic Pro. In that respect, the Apple applications represent a rather "closed" system. However, there are many excellent third party instruments available that will run in Metro. The best news is that Metro allows you to run both VSTi and AU instruments!

That said, you can run Garageband and Metro at the same time, routing midi from Metro into Garageband through an IAC bus. Make sure you're running a fast Mac though, Garageband is very CPU intensive. Good luck!
