MIDI Scrub?

Postby Timothy_Burns » Mon May 26, 2003 3:24 am

Is there a way to "scrub" across a particular chord and hear all the notes in it? I am a previous user of Musicshop, and by holding down the command key and dragging the mouse, whatever notes were displayed on the screen under the mouse would play. I see that there is an Audio scrub, which seems to apply to digital audio, but I am usually looking to do it with the midi sequencer function, as well.

In Musicshop, you could hear all 16 tracks, or any combination, depending on what was displayed on the screen. the scrub function worked in forward or reverse. It was quite handy.

That is in the full version only.

Wow, it looks like you need the full version to do any composing or tweaking. I guess you could set up a punch in/punch out loop and listen over and over, but that is a serious pain.

Now I know what to request for an additional feature for the SE version. :(

Is there any other way that folks work around this?

I keep trying to do things the way I would have in Musicshop. To be fair, Metro SE seems to have better control of some functions such as dynamics than MusicShop, but I am having a hard time adjusting. The philospohical approach is somewhat different, and I bring a lot of Musicshop baggage along with me. That is probably impeding my learning curve with Metro SE. A full Manual would sure be nice. I did not realize it was lacking one when I plopped down my cash. Hopefully it will come soon.

Tim,

If you select an area in the graphic editor by clicking in the black bar markers and dragging to select the measures you want listen to and then select cue from the transport you can hear sections of music very easily without scrubbing.

After thinking about it, there is also a scrub function in the list editor. Open the list editor and drag down the left hand side of the window. This selects events and also plays them. Dragging upwards plays them backwards.
