Recommended MIDI interfaces?

Postby Makyo » Tue Feb 11, 2003 11:18 pm

Hi,

I'm in the process of moving my music production --please don't laugh -- from an extremely stable Quadra to an iMAC and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend the best MIDI interface option for use with OS X and Metro . . .

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Gio

Well that depends on what else you want to be able to do with it.

You could get a simple midi interface or something like a Tascam US-428 USB Midi Controller which would give you audio inputs as well as midi in and out (I assume it would work with Metro as most other programs do).

I have a US-428 and find it works well with Metro in OS 9. I did some quick testing in OS X and things seemed to work there as well but that wasn't terrible aggressive testing.

Hi Makyo,
I am using a Edirol UM-1 (1 in-1 out) and has worked fine for me under usb. I am using a eMAC G4 running Metro G4 6.0.4 build 1.
It has been working well for me.

I have tested with a MOTU midi express XT and it seems to work real well. I have also tested with an Edirol UM880 with excellent results. These are both 8 in and 8 out MIDI devices.

I use a Midiman 4x4 - very reliable with OS 9 and OS X.

I'm using a M-Audio Midiman 4*4 which always hookes up for me when I plug it in and a iMic from Griffin technology which works great for a simple in and out and has a switch for mic or line level input and supports 24 bit.
