Polyrhythms...

Postby Lytz1 » Wed Feb 17, 2021 4:16 pm

Hello Jeremy,

just discovered the new polyrhythms in the drum editor.
Great job, very nice! Not sure how I missed this.
Was this just added recently? (in 7.3.8 - Mac)

By the way, thanks a lot for still adding stuff...

Best,
tL.

(EDIT: Might there be something else that I might have missed?)

Yes. Thank you.

The polyrhythm editor is a really powerful new tool. Each drum sound can have its own rhythm and much more. This feature was motivated by conversation I had with a drum professor from Berkelee college of music who missed his old fancy metronome.

Another feature related to this is that all of the real-time MIDI output can be directed to another track and recorded (Plug-ins only at this point). This was motivated by wanting to record the output of the polyrhythm editor.

I also have some new stuff I want to release very soon. Each track now has its own Rhythm Explorer data and a new feature, current called 'auto', allows any combination of tracks to be generated, with their own selection, automatically upon playback. Also a loop overall function has been added to the sections timing dialog. This makes it now possible to have a real-time album by using different sections as different songs. That will continuously play but be different every time (in the Rhythm explorer parts). I am currently in the final stages of implementing a new marker that is specific to a track. This overrides the lead generator stuff making it possible to set the density to 0 on a specific track where you have the canned part of it on a different track. The override continues until you specify another marker specific to that track so you don't have many LG track markers at all. It is amazing sounding to have a bass track set to synchronize to a generated guitar track, which is what I am listening to today.

In addition to all that, I have a server version of Metro I am currently calling Metro IPS, which stands for Infinite Player Server. You can see an example of the web interface here. When Metro IPS is running, the web interface will show 'n of InfinitySymbol' instead of 'i of n'. Metro IPS is a version of Metro whereby when you use RE to generate (or playback with overall looping set), it generates tracks, outputs them to MP3 and then logs into a user specified server and uploads the files with delays, essentially creating an infinite playback engine or online album.

And there is the whole new 'Music Code' thing. Metro 7.4 includes over 7450 music code entries in the Artists Presets file.

Yeah, I noticed. Crazy. This opens up a lot of possibilities indeed.

Nice idea, very cool. Besides this, I am listening for quite a while now. The tracks sound really good.

Yes, right. Froze the system on 10.14 like a lot of people.
Won't update anymore until the computer breaks down.

I want to get you the 7.4 beta but it is taking me awhile to retro fit the Mac version.

No rush. I am happy when it's ready. 8)
I wish I could leave the mac behind me already, but it would need a tremendous amount of time to move everything over to windows.
I will do that at some point though. That's for sure.

Yes, I have done that. Unfortunately, on the Mac I was preferring AudioUnits, so to convert documents to the PC I would change all audiounits on the Mac to VST and then copy them over. It is not as bad as you might think especially if the plug-ins are cross compatible. My motivation was because I could buy the equivalent of a MacBook pro for $600 instead of $2500. The OS's are pretty comparable. Both pretty good but leaving me with some gripes. Sine the debugger on the PC is so far superior, I have to develop on the PC now.

So Metro 7.4 is posted. There are many many changes so there could easily be issues but it seems to be quite solid right now. The latest additions include massive performance improvements in both the polyrhythm generator and the lead generator. The lead generator is almost 4x faster than it was.

Anyway, please give it a try and let me know ASAP if you run into any issues.
