Can't add Lead Preset to Artist Preset File

Postby Lytz1 » Sun Oct 07, 2018 12:42 pm

Hey there,

here's a more serious thing:

Add Lead Preset to Artist file does nothing. Metro doesn't write to file.
(In my case: LK1.maf , I duplicated the Empty.maf and renamed it.)

I also tried to copy the file to a different HDD, because I thought maybe
there are some permission problems or something. No luck.

Also, I think that what I do is correct, because when I add a Selection as Lead, and then move to the next,
Metro actually counts it as added. (I see the "between 0 and 1, 0 and 2 ...3/...4.,etc going up in the top right corner of the
Add Lead Preset Window,if the leads are actually getting added to the file. But it doesn't get saved to file. I quadruple checked everything...)

Any help here? This is quite a biggie for me.

Best,
tL.

(I also tried to write to the provided ones like FreddieRayVaughan.maf Same thing, doesn't write to file...)

Make sure you have "write" checked in the save dialog. It could be a "Mac" bug. I will check later today.

"write to artist preset file" is checked.

Thanks for taking a look on OSX.

Ok, so here are new findings:

It also does NOT work on my Laptop with different OS (OSX 10.10 there).

Deleting an entry in the preset file DOES work. (At least the files modification time gets updated, I can see it in the finder)

I wanted to test the 7.24 version, but I can't install two versions side by side. I am not sure if I want to overwrite the new one.

Did you test this with the 7.307 beta? The odds that the write operation randomly doesn't work on two different machines are pretty low I think.

Best,
tL.

(I have parallels, so today I will test the 7.3 beta for windows. I hope I can register another version of Metro for windows on my license)

Installed the windows version. Here it works. So it is not a user error.
Also, the artist preset management window in the windows version looks different?
(New & Open instead of open artist file on OSX)

On a side note: The Metro file browser actually works here. (On my OSX versions the correct file browser location doesn't get remembered.
It always start at the documents path. Also, the URE Presets don't get alphabetically sorted on my OSX Main machine,
they do however get sorted on my OSX laptop. )

Are the Artist preset files compatible between OSX and Windows? There are as well quite a lot more
Lead-Gen presets in the windows version as well. If so, I might just edit them with the windows version and copy them over to OSX.

Is the 7.3 windows newer than the 7.307 mac version?

Thanks,
tL.

Oh well... looks like presets are not cross-platform compatible.
At least the URE Presets from the windows version are not getting recognized
on the mac. Can't imagine this would be different for artist presets as well.
Well, at least I tried literally every option there is, so it is what it is.

The presets should be cross platform. However you may need to set the file type on the Mac which may require a 3rd party program.

What OS are you running on the Mac?

I will post a beta of 7.32 by next week for you to try again.

Alright, I'll try to see what I can find. OSX Finder tells me
on .MRE files --> Kind: Metro Arpeggiator preset. It doesn't do that with the ones I copied from the windows machine. I'll have a look if there's some app that can fix this.
I am running 10.13.6 on my main machine.

Very nice. Looking forward to it, thanks again.

Thanks a lot, I already checked.
Unfortunately, it seems to be still not working.
I also see that the .maf files are listed in finder as simple "documents".
Like the new presets as well. Everything else is listed as some kind of Metro file.
Might that be the problem? Maybe when I can get the files linked to Metro it will work.

It might be the problem, because there are three new .MRE presets in the Metro Folder.
(1 - ResolvingRhythms, 2- ArabianLeads and 3- RepeatBends)
They also do not show up in the preset list inside Metro and are also listed as simple "Documents"
in Finder.

Also on a side note, the preset list is alphabetically (still) unsorted.

Might it be necessary to trash preferences and .plist first for a valid test?

I also will check the app from the link, thanks for that.

Best,
tL.

I also noticed that in the quantize window the last entered value doesn't get remembered.
I am running 384 clocks, the window always defaults on open to 192.
I quantize to 16th notes a lot (96) so I have to type in the value every time I open the window.
This was also already present in the last version (7.03)

Well I forgot to set the filetype of those RE presets.

As far as adding lead presets goes, I tried it on three different Macs, 4 different OS's and they all worked flawlessly so perhaps it is some kind of user error.

This also does not happen on any of my machines. And one of them is running 10.13.6.

That's very strange. Maybe some kind of Permission Error? Stupid thing is there is no
"repair disk permissions" anymore on High Sierra.

User Error... well, I don't get it. I sent you an animated .gif of what I did and it seemed correct.
(Select a region with notes, open the Artist Preset Manager Window, select the correct Artist Preset File and hit ok.
I mean it's kind of fail-safe/idiot-proof isn't it?)

Is there any other requirement that needs to be done in the song prior to do this?
(Like markers, track needs to be set to record or loop or something?)

Thanks
tL.

I had tested a software which had problems with writing its license to disk because of a SDD Drive.
The Dev told me that the lincensing app had somehow problems with this kind of drive.
Might that be an issue?
