Transpose Window --> Constrain Notes to Track No. [x]

Postby Lytz1 » Sat Jan 27, 2018 10:30 am

We can already quantize a track rhythmically to another track. (Quantize window -> Quantize to track no. [x])
Why not do this also with note pitches?

The way I see this would be an addition to the Transpose window.
We have now: Conform to markers and Constain to scale.

In addition to that, why not something like: Transpose window --> Constrain to track number [x]

As a result, the notes would be forced to be transposed the notes of that particular "guide" track.

I think this would be quite useful and should be not too hard to implement?

Best,
tL.

(I think this might give impressive results when combined with a lead generator track as "lead note track."
Or when used simpler: Just as a chord guide track) Also would make it easy to change/adjust a lot of notes from different
tracks at the same time in a busy song

Hmm. Thinking about it, this might be more difficult as I thought.

I read your post twice and I do not understand the feature request. Please clarify exactly what this feature would do?

Okay, bear with me. I try to explain.

Scenario 1: We have a couple of notes selected on track 2.

What we already can do now in Metros Transpose Window is:

- constrain the selected notes to markers
- constrain the selected notes to a scale

Scenario 2: We have a couple of notes selected on track 2

What we already can do in Metros Quantize window is:

- Quantize the positions of the notes to another track, for example to the notes of track 1.

BUT: What we CAN'T do in Metro right now is this:

Possible Scenario 3: We have a couple of notes selected on track 2 and want to align the pitches of these notes to the
notes of track 1.

- We open the transpose window and select Constrain Notepitches to track 1.

(Track 1 would serve as a note grid. The notes of track 2 would be transposed to fit the note pitches of track 1)

In a nutshell: The same principle what quantize to track already does for note positions,
but for notepitches instead.)

Hope this explains it better?

Much!

Except what is align pitches? This has nothing to do with timing right? It would basically collect all notes from track 1 and any notes on track 2 that are not on track 1 would be transposed to the closest note. Is that correct?

Yes, indeed that's exactly what I meant.
