searching function

Postby françois » Sun Nov 02, 2014 5:30 am

Hello jerm,
I 've got a lot of songs in metro ( more than 2000 ), and would like to know if you could implement a " search " function to the song names in the " section " window ?
It's not the first time I ask this, I remenber you told it was not possible, but I really need it, because it take a very long time sometimes to find a song.
Thanks for you interest in my request.
François

ps: how is it possbile to export a song from a document to another document ?
( not only with the midifile export function, but with all the links and effects )

I think it is already possible with either Spotlight or windows search. You will need to tell the appropriate search program to search the contents of 'bysq' files. The name is stored as normal ascii so it should be found.

This solution will work. Follow these steps:

    Download "easy find".
    launch it.
    Click on settings icon:
      Uncheck all check boxes.
Replace one line so that all it says is 'BYSQ' (keep the single quotes).
      Check that one line only.
Click on the popup menu in the main interface, select 'select...' and navigate to the folder where your Metro files are stored.
Type in the words you are looking for.
    Click the search icon.
    See the results.

Works perfectly for me!

jerm,

first of all thanks again for your help.
it works for me until the following point :

- Easyfind is downloaded
- I created " BYSQ " in the searched items
- when I select the song name of the section windows, I obtain 2 .bysq files
- when I open the bysq file, I can't access directly to the searched song.....
Could you tell me what is wrong ?

Thanks
françois

I am not looking at the documentation for 'easyfind' right now but I believe the single quotes are mandatory to tell find file that you are searching for a file type not an extension. Thus it should read:

'BYSQ' not
BYSQ

Let me know if that is correct or not.

I don't understand. Easy Find is not going to set your section within the Metro Document. If you are looking for a search function inside the Metro document then you need to add a feature request. Usually there are not that many sections within a Metro document but I think it would be fairly easy to add a search function.

Thanks

Okay, I am sorry, I think I misunderstood.

What if, as you type characters, the cursor jumps to the section of the characters you type, similar to what happens in the jukebox (and the plug-in) window when not in the search control?
