Effects on Mixer Aux channel not recording.

A problem I encounter from time to time is as follows:

I have an effects plug-in on an Aux channel.
Moving the fader on various channels, I can hear the effect is being applied properly.
BUT, when I hit record and record fader movements, the effects do not playback.
What's strange is I hear the effect when I record, and also after recording the fader is clearly moving, but no effect can be heard...

Set-up seems to be the same as when it works properly for me, so cannot pinpoint what the difference is. And even with the same plug-in, sometimes I get the problem and sometimes I don't, so it's not the plug-in itself...

Any ideas?

If you send me a sample project that has the fader moving it might help.
