after demoing Metro for a couple of days and buying it yesterday I want to take the opportunity
to offer some considerations to enhance the general speed of workflow in Metro,
which is in general a very elegant designed application:
The more important stuff:
a) Plug In GUI/Editor should open automatically after loading/instantiating.
This would make the most sense, because when I load a plug I want to edit it anyways,
so why the extra clicking?
b) After pressing cmd-9 for the Plug-In browser it would be very convenient to have the search field in focus
so that we can start to type in immediatly without clicking.
Especially useful if you have tons of plugs like me (I am sure you have..

c) The ability to save racks as presets. This would basically add the option to save complete Channelstrips.
d) Mute/solo selected tracks (multi-mute/multi-solo), solo-defeat
e) Vertical Volume Slider on the track page would be veeeeery useful as well.
f) Alphabetical Sorting of plugins when sorted by category. (The Structure really looks very chaotic the way it is now.)
The less important stuff:
a) Option to limit the number of the "Recent Plugins" List
b) Ability to save presets in the ctrl-cmd-H (Harmony) window would be kinda useful as well.
c) Additional drawing tool options for controller and automation data. (Like Sine, Sawtooth, Square, etc.)
(This would also overcome some of the limitations of missing automation control points that we can drag around.)
d) Besides Average Velocity "Relative Velocity" would be useful.
I.e. we have a velocity edited pattern and want to fade in/out the patterns velocity without changing the feel of the pattern.
(Or an option in the velocity menu for "relative scale")
In general: Relative scaling would be useful in a lot of other controller features of metro as well.
This would basically add some kind of "Trim-Automation" for controllers.
e) Auto scroll to selected track in mixer. (select a track in track view scrolls the track in view on the mixer)
f) Ability to see multiple aux sends in the mixer.
The mixer is so compact anyways, it can easily deal with some extra rows without cluttering the clean design.
g) Drum Editor /Assign New drum:
The ability of the "Assign new drum" window of reading the Note pressed on Keyboard (not the computer keyboard) for note entry.
(also direct note entry from external keyboard might find its uses also in other note entry windows
and would speed up the general workflow considerably.)
h) - Export selection as midi file
Nice additional keyboard shortcuts:
- Keyboard Shortcut to open current tracks VI Plugin. (and/or)
- Keyboard Shortcut to open current tracks upper most FX in chain. This would overcome the shortcomings in the mixer to open plugins.
- Keyboard Shortcut for zoom and snap levels in track overview. (maybe even zoom to selection?)
I hope you might find some of theese thoughts useful.
Best regards,
tL.
