Quicktime Required?

Postby rictheobscene » Mon Jun 03, 2013 7:35 pm

OK - I installed the 7.1 update, went to launch it and it said Quicktime was required. There is no way in hell I am installing Quicktime on my production rig.

Is there a work around for this, or am I going to have to abandon Metro? I would rather uninstall Metro and forget it ever existed than install Quicktime.

I am not sure the big deal installing quicktime on a pc. It gives you many audio file conversion possibilities and video support.

If you do not want to install Quicktime, I suggest you run the 64 bit version on the PC. Of course, this requires a 64 bit computer and OS.

Looking at your old posts, it looks like you were running in a 32 bit OS. Metro 32 bit has always required Quicktime so nothing has changed there except perhaps the machine you are running it on :?:

When I was testing Metro, I had it on my 'everything' PC, and it does have Quicktime installed. I kept Metro installed on that machine while I was learning how to use it. Of course, I did read the web pages prior to purchasing, and while I read that Quicktime was supported, I didn't see anything stating it was required.

Since I was between projects, I decided to migrate to my production rig in conjunction with the 7.1 update.

Quicktime is a resource hog and seems to take up CPU and Memory even when it is not running. So, it's not going on my production rig. Since I don't do anything with video, I don't need it.

Oh well, Metro was fun to play with. But, I have to go with what works for me and the way I compose. This is just one of those buyer beware things. I should have asked more questions prior to ponying up the cash.

Well 32 bit rigs are a bit dated anyway so when you upgrade to 64 bit you can get back into it. Or you could post a feature request for a 32 bit quicktime-free version.

This page does state that quicktime is required for the 32 bit version under Windows.

As far as it using resources, I believe it is minimal.
