Problem using Garritan Instant Orchestra

Postby fastlanephil » Tue Jan 15, 2013 11:41 pm

Hi Jeremy,

I'm using Garritan Instant Orchestra in Aria on an aux bus and placed on a track. If I load one of the multi-instrument ensembles it plays fine unless I press too hard on the Axion 49 and trigger aftertouch. Then the ensemble quits playing unless I trigger aftertouch. There is a control knob in Aria that says LPass(cc25) that goes to zero when I trigger aftertouch and then goes from zero on up when I trigger aftertouch again. If I reset the LPass(cc25) control knob then it works normally again until I trigger aftertouch again.

I don't encounter this problem when I'm using the Aria player with Garritan Instant Orchestra in stand-alone mode.

Is there a way to get around this?

I can also just use my piano keyboard to prevent .

I am not really sure what you are saying. Aftertouch causes the plug-in to be silent (quits playing)? Somehow aftertouch is being mapped to CC25 low-pass filter?

I would try a couple of things. First, change the preset on the Axion or use the editor to be sure nothing is mapped to CC25 on the current preset. If that does not work you could be sure that channel aftertouch is not sent to the plug-in by clicking on the MIDI-cable-icon in the 'instantiated plug-ins/synths' window and unchecking it.

Yes, the Axion aftertouch is being mapped to the CC25 low-pass filter. It sets it to zero and then is controlled with aftertouch. As I said you can reset the CC25 low-pass filter as long as you don't trigger aftertouch again.

M-audio says to refer to the manual and the manual says to refer to chapter 5 but there is no mention of aftertouch or the aftertouch strip in chapter 5. It looks like the manual was published unfinished.

In the EFX MIDI Filter and Options only un-clicking controllers stops this from happening but then the mod wheel won't function.

My Axion is stacked on top of my piano most of the time so I can use the piano keys and still have access to my Axion mod wheel if needed.

I'll post about this on the Garritan forum and see if I get a response from someone in development.

Hello Phil,

Well there are a couple of other things to try. First off, individual controllers can be specified in the MIDI filtering dialog (press the all and none button and use the popup to select controllers). Secondly, try double clicking on the output's name in the mixer window (the Garritan MIDI output) and specify not to 'upon play reset channel aftertouch'. I bet the latter fixes it.

Hi Jeremy,

I used the none button and then selected the desired controllers. It worked! :D

I left message at the M-Audio forum about the lack of aftertouch programming information in the manual.

Thanks much!!

Hi Jeremy,

The aftertouch on my Axion 49 was also not triggering vibrato for the Garritan samples. A member of the Garritan forum posted info that my Axion 49 probably shouldn't be be transmitting aftertouch with CC25 so I reset the Axion to factory settings and that fixed the problem.
