editing video

Postby mark scheel » Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:07 am

hi everybody

i m trying to edit video.

but i have no clue how to do it.

i have these two tracks of video the upper track is shown when i click into the other track then this track is shown in the video window.

so i tried to cut out some pictures in the upper track and hoped that the pictures from the lower track would be then shown instead.
but its not working like that.

also when i cut some pictures in the graphic editor and then later on i want to move the edges like we could do with waveforms i cannot see how to do this.

is there a good starter tutorial.

metro seems to be the only DAW that can record and edit video.

any help greatly appreciated

greetings

Well I haven't dealt with this in a long time but I believe Metro will only play a single video track at a time, the selected track. You can have multiple video tracks to copy from however. Try copying from one track and pasting onto another. Then select the destination track and it should show in the video window.

hi jerm
thank you for your prompt reply

this works like expected. with installing quicktime 7 and removing quicktime player 10 performance of
the video view got much better.

the recorded video is always a little bit late can i adjust this somewhere upfront or do i have to correct it manually?

i m on imac 21 3Ghz using the inbuilt i sight camera through camtwist for shooting some guitar lesson podcasts.

i still don t unterstand the transition window.
after cutting the video to another track i would like to make some sort of transistion if possible.

maybe someone can help me another time with this ?

I am not sure what you mean. It is late relative to the audio? There are different synchronization settings in the movie pane of the preferences dialog.

The transitions work differently depending on how many video tracks you have selected when you enter the dialog.

sorry

but i still have not figured out how to make a simple fade out on the video i record with metro.

or a fade in. do i have to have other special things installed on my computer.
or maybe i have to select in a special window?

i got an overlaying text working . i somehow have the impression that the underlying video is of degraded quality
it look somehow more pixelated. i don t know how to aviod this.

may be someone can get me started with a simple step by step instruction.

The video processed with be compressed using the compressor specified in Preferences. If you are seeing low quality video then you probably need to specify a better compressor. I haven't done fades in a while but I think all you have to do is select the video and go to the effects and transitions window. I will check this later and give you better information.

To do a video fade simply:

* select the area of the video you want to fade.
* Select video->effects and transitions from the edit menu.
* select HSL balance
* drag the 'lightness to' fader to 0
* select ok

The video is what ever is provided by the hardware.

To do transitions you may need to select two movie tracks by selecting the destination first (I think). Then the transitions will be applied appropriately.
