Can I throw out my DAW?

Postby Tommy Zai » Wed May 25, 2011 4:03 pm

Can you see any reason why I need a DAW if I use Metro?

Can I simple do the following:

Sequence on Metro.
Record, FX, Mix, and master on my multitrack (the new one soon-to-be-released by Bias Peak)

I have enough FX and VSTis. I don't need the ones that come with Logic, Live, or other.

Can you see any reason why I need a DAW?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. Throw out your (other) DAW. Metro is a Digital Audio Workstation.

DAW?

Postby Tommy Zai » Thu May 26, 2011 4:23 pm

Wow! I was led to believe it was a super sequencer. Is it a full-featured DAW?

What feature set would make a DAW to you?

DAW!

Postby Tommy Zai » Thu May 26, 2011 6:50 pm

I guess a DAW would include everything.

Well unfortunately, Metro does not make coffee :)

It does do everything I would consider a DAW to do, except with more extensive MIDI capabilities.

Coffee!!

Postby Tommy Zai » Thu May 26, 2011 10:53 pm

Well, I don't drink coffee. :-). I originally found Metro by doing a search for the best sequencer for Mac. I was considering buying Numerology and still am. I have never heard of Metro, but it seems to have a good little following. I am sure it would help me. I'm waiting for a sale. :-).
There are never any comparisons with Metro vs. Other DAWS. Odd.

Hello Tommy,
Well, your search was correct. Metro is the best sequencer for Mac. I have no relations of any kind with Saganthech or, Jeremy (the developer) just a very happy and satisfied user.

Metro has been around for a very long time. Yes, the user base is not as high compared to L-o-g-i-c, D-i-g-i-t-a-l P-e-r-f-o-r-m-e-r and a few others and it is very strange indeed.

#1 thing you'll get here, that you wont get anywhere else is support. No joke!

#2 If you find a bug in the program, Jeremy is all over it and most of the time it is fixed within a day or two. Other companies, you'd have to wait and 99.99% of the time, is still not fixed.

#3 Do you have a feature request? Just place it in the appropriate forum.

#4 Application stability? Way up-there.

#5 No Bloated-ware. Metro has a very small footprint after installation. Can't remember correctly but, I think is around 6 megabytes, Jeremy can correct me on this. Extremely light on CPU and memory. You'd only put a hit on this depending on the amount of VI and plugins you use.

#6 You can score to video if you want, then, export.

#7 MIDI? Second to none!

#8 Plug-ins? AU and VST fully supported. Try that with the two DAW I mentioned above. I can't recall, Jeremy will correct me on this too, I think VST was updated to the latest version.

These are just some of the things that come to mind at this moment. Have not had coffee yet (no pun intended).

Yes, Metro does not make coffee nor, pancakes, but, it does put food on the table, thou. This is all I do, Tommy.

Have you downloaded the demo? That's something you don't get from others either. I think it quits after 30 minutes and you just have to relaunch the app.

Another way to get the best possible answer, would be for you to tell us what do you want the DAW to do and how you will be using it.

Again, I hope some of the info I posted are of some help. If not, please ask.

So much for the run-down and lo-down on this great DAW. I never knew it was so powerful. From what I've read and heard Metro is a great sequencer, but it seems it's real power is hidden. Well, I'm happy to have found it. I'll look for the upcoming sale and try to grab it. Thanks!!

Hello Tommy,

Yes. It is indeed a very powerful DAW. I hate to use the word "under-rated." To me it means, it doesn't stand up to the so called 'big boys" on the market and that's bull. I guess the more appropriate wording would be "not recognized/seen by many."

Again, I am speaking as a fellow musician, who makes a leaving using these tools. I gain nothing for what I'm saying. A good test would be to take a look at this forum and you'll find no moaning. Basically a very few bugs, which are repaired within a day or two and you are notified about updates ASAP. A few users including me, who thought it were bugs, it was actually a conflict with some external gear or using the wrong approach:oops:

The big boys' forums you'll find many complaints and requests (for up to 10 years old) yes, I wrote it right, that were never fulfilled to this very day.

When I said "stable," Metro is the most stable DAW on earth. I know because I tried them all and that cost me a fortune.

Just give the demo a spin to get a feel for it. If you have questions or need help, just post back. This forum is open to demo users to

Glad to hear about you discovering Metro.
