Need to re-qualify. How many times?

Postby Diego » Tue Feb 20, 2007 8:56 am

After a massive retuning and reinstalling work on my Mac's HD, I launched my electronic-downloaded version of Metro SE and it asks to qualify to start.
I will connect to the Net and type the right answer and everything should be fine.
However I'm planning to buy a new Mac and reinstalling Metro on it will probably require a new requalifying process (it will be the third time).
So I'm asking how many times can anyone qualfy Metro before his licence will become invalid.
Sorry for my english.

You should be all set.

We look for patterns in qualification that indicate a user is installing on multiple machines. If this happens the serial number is blacklisted and qualification becomes impossible.

If you qualify on multiple machines, not just a laptop and a desktop, then you need to purchase additional licenses.

Flurry of qualifying requests

Postby giomakyo » Mon May 23, 2011 9:32 am

Hmmm ... I've been using Metro on the same machine for a couple of years now, and every now and then I just get hit with a blizzard of Qualifying requests. For example, I have been asked to Qualify about 2 out of 3 times I open Metro for the past week or two. There is nothing different about my Mac or any change in usage patterns, yet this keeps happening. Any ideas?

There are a few things that could cause this.

1. You are running Metro from a removable drive. Metro will not install permanently on a removable drive.

2. Your preferences file is corrupt or has the wrong permissions set. If your Metro preferences file (located at yourname/library/preferences/) can not be written then you will be asked to qualify each time.

3. You have multiple versions of Metro spread across more than one drive. In this case if you run the version from a different drive than you ran it the previous time, you will be asked to qualify.

Hi Jerm,

Thanks for the quick reply.
Re. your suggestions:

>1. You are running Metro from a removable drive. Metro will not install permanently on a removable drive.

Not the case. Metro is installed on my iMac's internal drive.

>2. Your preferences file is corrupt or has the wrong permissions set. If your Metro preferences file (located at yourname/library/preferences/) can not be written then you will be asked to qualify each time.

Hmm, I can't seem to find where you're referring to. This id not located in the Preferences window from the "Metro" drag-down window; where would I find this?

Again, not the case.

Thanks in advance.

In the finder, go to "yourUsername"/library/preferences. You should be able to go to your username by pressing the home button in the finder. "yourusername" is your user name. In my case it is "Jerm". There should be a file named (something like) Metro 6i preferences. Get info on it and check the permissions. Even if it looks okay, try removing it from your preferences folder. You will then need to qualify the next time Metro starts but that should be the last time.

Also be sure you are running the absolutely most up to date version of Metro.
