Scrolling Lyrics

Ability to type/paste lyrics to a Melody Midi Track not channel/part specific
The lyrics should be able to pretty much line up to the melody because, they would snap to notes in the melody track. Still, this won't be too accurate, but hyphenating between words and syllables in the lyric window, would place the lyrics in the right place.

Thank you,
Adriano

My idea to implement this is to have an 'insert lyrics as markers' menu item which will bring up a dialog to allow you to select the text file and then the lyrics will be hyphen aligned to the pre-selected melody track.

You would then be able to align the markers simply by dragging them in the graphic editor.

Does that sound good?

I don't want to use the lyrics window because that is not yet implemented on the PC side.

That actually sounds even better. Moving the marker(s) seems to be a more accurate way. I like it. :D

A million thanks
Adriano

P.S. I also sent you the files for you to experiment with

Well I have it working on the PC with the files you sent me (for Mac it is just a recompile with some small changes) but it will require quite a bit of trial and error with adding hyphenation to the lyrics text file. It wasn't too bad until the start of the second verse.

The biggest problem is that lyric-markers don't snap to notes nicely so to shift all of them is a wicked pain. I am thinking now that ctrl-click and drag of a marker should move all lyric markers to the right of it and snap those markers to notes on the currently selected track. What do you think?

It might help to have a song I know. Do you have any other songs I could try?

Hello Sir.
I see what you're saying and I have total confidence in you. I know that you'll find a way to make it work. Yes, the ctrl-click and drag idea it's good too. I think that will be just as good if not better.

I sent another midi file your way.

Thank you for everything,

Adriano

Okay I have it working on the PC. Being able to drag the markers to align all lyrics to the right is crucial in getting the lyrics to easily line up. You can now right-click and drag a lyric-marker to align it and all lyric-markers to the right of it to notes on the selected track.

I also added a type popup to the marker dialog. This allows you to change markers to be lyric, standard or copyright types. The marker type setting should also make its way into the exported MIDI file.

Tomorrow I will work on incorporating those changed into the Macintosh versions.

Thanks! Looking forward to it. I think I've spend more time watching your show this at work than actually working! Fantastic stuff!
