updating service from with the application

This would be nice to have since most other applications have that feature of allowing the user to check for updates.

So this is really not a bug report although it does bug me.

Any thoughts about providing that feature ?

Yes it is a good idea. However for you it does not matter because you are a forum member and as such you will be the first to receive new update notices via email. (|;
