Plug-in Setup Help

Postby GSpro » Fri Nov 21, 2008 1:40 pm

Hi Jerm and forum,

I need help on how to setup Outputs and Inputs in Metro for plug-ins. I am not familiar with using them. I have downloaded Real Guitar demo and here are the instructions for the setup from Tech Support:

<To record MIDI notes from RealGuitar:

1. Run your host sequencer supporting VST instrument, load RealGuitar VSTi,
create a MIDI track and output it to RealGuitar

2. In RealGuitar window click on combo box in the left lower corner (below
PM button) and select MIDI or BOTH item in popup menu. That will switch on
the MIDI output from RG to the host

3. Create MIDI track you want to record MIDI from RG, and assign RealGuitar
in the INPUT of this track - now when you start record your sequencer,
anything RG is playing will be recorded as MIDI notes onto this track
/insert chords to RG MIDI track (the track outputted to RG), start host, and
play strum keys, or use strumming pattern of RG Pattern Library/>

Any help or a sample screenshot is very much appreciated.
Thank you everyone

Yes this should be possible. In order for this to work in Metro there is one part that is not very intuitive and I will explain why.

Go to the effects window, right-click (or control-click with a one button mouse) on the name of the plug-in in the effects rack and make sure that 'record midi' is checked. From then on Metro will record MIDI from the plug-in. The reason this a bit hidden is because if it were not you could easily go to record and all of a sudden, without knowing, have recorded a bunch of MIDI data (notes, controllers, etc,) along with whatever you were intending to record from your MIDI controller.

Also note that while it is now theoretically possible to record MIDI from AU plug-ins, Metro does not have this functionality yet. So the 'record MIDI' from plug-in is only possible in Metro for VST plug-ins.

Hello Sir,
It all make' sense.
Yes, it worked with no issues.
The "Midi Out" works for the VST format only at the moment and it will be implemented in the near future for AU format.

Thank you for the prompt reply
