Default Buffer?

Postby blindlemon » Tue Nov 13, 2007 3:48 pm

Could anyone tell me what the default buffer was set at. Also what the default clocks per quarter note are. I started noodling those to correct some latency issue I'm having and I forgot to mark where I started.

Thanks

Which buffer? The audio buffer in the digital audio device options dialog should be set to 512 or 1024 for just playback. For real time performance with low latency playing through plug-ins I recommend setting it to 256.

That does sound familiar. Thanks much. Since I'm here I'd like to ask another question. I'm recording live guitar thru my eurorack mixer into a g4. I have play thru selected and am monitoring playback thru my stereo. When monitoring, I hear a slight delay from striking a string and what I hear in the headphones. Is this the latency issue and do you have any recommendations. In Metro 5 it was solved by lowering the buffer and lowering the clicks per quarter note.

If you are monitoring with software audio through then the latency will be the audio packet size. Try setting to 256 or so.

Jerm,
That did it! Thanks for your help.

I have just upgraded to 6 and have one more question to get me going. I'm trying to open my Metro 5 files but 6 isn't recognizing them. The projects are in their own individual folders within a "Metro Projects" folder within the Metro folder. When I try to open the project, it's grayed out and I don't see the Metro icon. How do I open them?

Thanks for the patience

Usually this will occur if the files were transferred through a PC or the internet. It is best to transfer them directly from an old Mac.

If this is the case then you can still use them but you will need to change their file type to 'BYSQ'. You may need a file utility program to do that.

Try this google link.

The MIDI clocks per quarter note is set up in the MIDI Setup dialog under the Setup menu. However, I don't think that has anything to do with audio latency.

(I chose 384 when I set my system up long ago. It's a choice that I've regretted ever since, because it makes the math so messy! I made a little chart of note length and clock counts and stuck it to the edge of my monitor.)
