Virus TI

Postby Paul » Fri Dec 29, 2006 5:54 am

Bought myself a virus TI and having some problems with the VirusControl plugin. There is a latency when playing back through the TI's USB port. When using a 'normal' plugin, there's no latency. Is there something I should change in Metro's (6.3.8.1) settings or is this a known problem? I don't have this problem when using Logic.

Try going to audio Setup:device options and modifying the audio packet size (e.g. make it smaller).

I set it to 128, but there's still latency when playing back. Are there any other people out there who work with Metro and the Virus TI that have the same problem?

Well if that does not fix it I do not know what it is. I have contacted Access directly and can only wait for a response. The only way I would be able to resolve this would be if I had a T1 unit in house.

Can this situation be cured by the offset options in

Setup Menu/Digital Audio Setup/Advanced

If the virus device is lagging, the time can be measured in samples against other tracks and you can input the amount in the dialog.

Support from Access-Music said they might have a chance to look into this further after the January NAMM show.

Hi Jerm,

any word from Access yet about this problem?

Well I recontacted them and am now awaiting a response. They, for obvious reasons, are not willing to swap NFR's of hardware for software so I asked for a loaner if they cannot spend the time to look into this probelm on their end.

That's too bad. Hope you can solve the issue. In the meantime I'll just use midi instead of usb for playback. I can still transfer the audio signal using usb and then manually place the audio region in sync. Not really 'Total Integration', but at least partial... :)

It looks like they are finally going to send me a loaner so I will be able to check this problem out.

Hello Paul,

How do you like the T1 otherwise? I have heard good things about it.

Well, the sound of the Virus is a matter of taste. I've always loved the digital kind of sound it produces. I also like the new hypersaw and wavetable oscillators but I don't care that much for the somewhat weird sounds the graintable and formant-based oscillators produce. I guess they're not for me.

It's also great to be able to use it together with the Virus Control plug-in from within my DAW. It's true that you forget that you're working with a hardware synth. I must say though that the only program I've got it working with without problems is Logic. Ableton Live (serious arp sync problems and then some...) and Metro (sorry dude...) don't seem to like it that much. I'm sure that once you get the loaner, I won't have to resort to Logic anymore... 8)

Well I got the Virus TI loaner and it seems to work as I expected it would. There is latency compensation being applied but it only works properly if the TI plug-in is placed as a track insert. If the TI plug-in is placed on an aux buss there will be a 4k sample latency which, of course, makes it pretty much unusable for real time stuff. Have you tried it with the TI as a track insert?

I am still just getting started checking it out and I am running on an Intel mac so there may be more serious problems.

Hi Jerm, forgive me... but exactly how do I insert the Virus Control as a track insert? The two ways I've tried: using the plugs pop-menu in the track list and dragging the plugin from the plug-ins window to the effects/synths window. Either method produces the mentioned issue. Can you tell me how you did it?
