Assigning MIDI Parts of a Keyboard Split

Is there a way to assign midi input channel to a track? When composing I often need to play two different software synthesisers with a splitted keyboard (experimenting with chord inversions and basslines or melody and chords at the same time, etc.). It seems to be difficult (or impossible?) with Metro.

Yes, or perhaps I should say, most likely. If you have two software synthesizer Virtual Instruments (VI's) you can filter out data that you do not want to be sent to them. Go to the effects window, select the first VI, then click on the MIDI cable icon. This brings up the Effects MIDI filter and options dialog. Deselect the channels that you do not want to receive MIDI on. Do the same for the second VI.

The only case where this would not work would be if both VI's were so inflexible that they will only respond on one MIDI channel and it is the same MIDI channel.

Thank you. In this case, Metro probably fullfills my requirements, and I'll order the full version soon.

Bad news. I tried the solution above but it did not work, because Metro "re-channelizes" the incoming midi events before sending them forward, to the plug-ins. The only possible solution is a filter on the input of the tracks, like "Input Transformer" in Cubase, or the "Multi Record" mode of Digital Performer. Can I hope that something like this will be implemented in one of the future versions of Metro?

Good news. Metro will not re-channelize the input in two different cases.

1. The output assignment is 'port'. Go to the ouput popup and select edit port and select the correct VI.
2. If multiple tracks are record enabled. Shift-click in the record enable column to select multiple tracks.

In the first case the transport's MIDI thru displays 'all' and in the second it displays 'multi'. Make sure you have automatic MIDI thru on in the switches menu.

Thank You very much for the replies. I think I have found the sequencer software I looked for, and probably will have a Cubase and a DP for sale in the next weeks :D .
