How long does it take a comptuer progarmer to get a progam

I know we have some of the best compter progamers around on
this form. With all the new programs always seem to be coming out
all the time. How long dose it take to writer a progam?

Which program are you waiting for?

I'm wondering why it's taking so long for plugins to come to X.

A lot of programs are developed over time and refined. To write a new one from scratch would take a lot of time and effort and would probably involve a legion of people.

OSX has now got a lot of unix people excited and so new developers are coming onboard to a platform they didn't write on in the past. That is probably why there are so many applications out there now.

In aerospace, we sometimes answer this question with "how much money do you have?"

Seriously, I think part of the problem is that there has been some turnover in the Apple developer world, partially as the result of the introduction of X. Jeremy, you might know better, but I've had the impression that some people who have been writing code for Mac for a while are getting out of it because they figure that the learning curve for X is steep enough that, if they have to re-learn everything anyway, they may as well go work in the Windows world. (Although you'd think Carbon would make a nice "bridge" for those folks...) On the other hand, it appears to me like a lot of the Linux development community is looking at X with interest, but they're just now getting up to speed. (Browsing Sourceforge.net, I'm starting to see products with their supported OS'es being listed as "Linux, OSX".) This could be especially true for people in the audio/MIDI world with OMS going away and a whole new architecture emerging for MIDI and audio. If this is true, expect to see a lot more things happening in the next year or so. Jeremy, as someone who has gone through this transition (and, believe me, we're all glad you did!), what is your take on it?

Yes this is true. I think we will see a lot of new stuff in the next year with regard to audio for OS X. OS X is built upon a unix system so a lot of people are already oriented toward it.
