Back to Metro?

Postby zerocrossing » Sat Jul 29, 2006 7:45 pm

Hey.

After Cakewalk pulled it's shananigans, I moved to Digital Performer... but I'm wondering if perhaps it's time to come back. I'm about to move from a dual G4 to a dual g5 and I want something that's a little less bloated than digital performer has been feeling lately. Also something that may run VSTs natively would be sweet. Does Metro make use of a dual processor system? Mostly I just want to run basic MIDI tracks and record from my MOTU 828 while running Stylus RMX and a few soft synths. Is Metro for me again? BTW, Hi Jeremy, it's Mark from Ithaca. The guy who used to house sit for you and do order fulfillment. Good to see you're still plugg'n away.

I doesn't do anything specifically oriented toward dual processor machines but the OS sets up tasks/threads to take advantage of both processors.

Dual Processor Support

Metro itself is pretty CPU efficient. It's the plug-ins that can start causing problems. Hopefully with Apple's switch to Intel, the new Universal versions of software instruments and effects will ALL be Mac friendly. :)

Hi Zerocrossing,

I strongly recommend that you tryout the current Metro (full version) demo. Although it "looks" like the same old Metro on the outside, there are many new features. I own both DP and Metro, but I use Metro for commercial work as well as my personal music projects. It's powerful, flexible, processor efficient, and has rock solid stability on OSX. If that's what you're looking for, give it another try.

Hello Zerocrossing
I was a DP user for a long time up until March or so of this year until I found out about Metro. DP is no longer in my list because of the issues and many other reasons.
Like MP said download the demo and try it out.
You will not be dissappointed.
The forum is great and Jeremy is one of the best in the business IMO
