Extreme instability

Postby David Kristensen » Thu May 25, 2006 9:29 am

Well, I acquired Metro G4 6.2.2.1 yesterday, and I've been marred by EXTREME instability.

The program freezes within 10 minutes of launch, typically after hitting space to stop the track, or Cmd-Z to undo, etc, or when dropping a plugin onto a track.

My system is ->
PowerMac G5, Dual 2 GHz
4 GB RAM
Plenty of free disk space
Mac OS X 10.4.6
M-Audio FW Audiophile

It's impossible to be creative with this kind of quality, and I feel a bit "hmmm" about it . After all, it is seemingly $329 out of the window.

Is there anything wrong? Could it be because I am using the G4 version (i assume that it just means it's AltiVec optimized, something the G5 also has)?

I would strongly recommend the 6.3.x pre-release as the version you are trying to use was not designed to be used with Tiger (OS 10.4) or greater. Please login and download 6.3.x. That should fix any problems you are encountering.

If the problem is within a plug-in, this will not fix it. Please specify which plug-ins you are trying to use.

Metro is a very stable program. Instabilities are usually caused by incompatible plug-ins.

Does purchasing Metro from the store get you 6.2.2?
(looking in the announcements that was about 15 versions ago).

If it's not entirely Tiger happy, maybe the download it sends should be a more modern version?

Having freezes from 6.2 versions is probably worse than a minor quirk in 6.3 and definitely off putting to a new user.
(If there is a price difference it should be tagged on from the start).

You are actually paying for a damn good program, getting direct support from the author (very quickly in this case), and not having to pay $149 everytime .1 is added to the version number.

re: altivec - yes it's the G4/G5 version. You can run G4 or standard version. G4 is just the minimum required for it. The standard version will be slower.

You get both 6.2 and 6.3. You are right though, we should probably steer users to 6.3 for better Tiger compatibility.

Yeah.

Thanks VERY much for the link provided in your e-mail. The UB version works like a charm, except for when I use V-Station, which doesn't work with Logic anyway.

Now begins a transition :D I can already see myself get quite productive :P

Thanks for the quick and elaborate support. Worth every dime
