loading missing VSTi crash

Postby Scoot » Mon Apr 24, 2006 6:53 am

Having a document with VSTi's and audio tracks saved to disk.

I recently deleted the audio tracks and some needed VSTi's.

When launching the document, Metro correctly brought up an open dialog - audio track not found......continue searching or.....unlink etc.
Great dialog box.........just what was needed.

Click unlink and then Metro trys to locate the correct VSTi (that isn't there) and crashes.

OK a silly thing to do.......but is this something that can be avoided (say if you didn't know the plugin was missing and metro might be able to tell you...... as it did for the audio track and report its not found.......and you can move on) or is it more of an unlucky OS trap that Metro can't get out of that you must be always wary in case you do something foolish?

Are you sure that it is Metro crashing and not the VSTi? What is the VSTi that Metro is looking for? Do you have a crash log?

sampletank and soundfonts.

I think it may have to do with a VST that is relying on the location on files inside itself - looking for a directory?

If I do the same thing to a reverb plugin, NOT in the correct location, metro still finds it and loads it. :)

The crash log might let me officially point fingers.

With 6.3.5.2 it brings up a change port dialog which is a much better outcome. :D
