Mixing down to file issue

i tried to mix down to a file from 3 tracks of 48khz/24bit audio to a stereo 41khz/16bit AIF file, which sounded quiet and very very very clipped, when i set it to export to 48khz/24bit AIF it sounded fine.

using latest metro LX on macintel with 10.4.5.

Well I did the same thing: 3 48k 24 bit tracks mixed to 1 16 bit 44.1k on the intel mac with clipping and without clipping and I got the exact expected result for both. Perhaps you should provide me with a sample .bndl document for further analysis. If you decide to do so, make it as small as possible.

just to clarify, the tracks weren't clipping, i had thought that there was a chance that the other user, stephanie, was experiencing the same thing as me (thought it may have sounded to some like it was clipping extremely going from 48 to 41khz isn't that big a shift, so the auido is still recognisable). it was simply that the software wasn't handling the conversion. i'll try and give you more info shortly.

Metro LX has an option 'Save as bundle file'. This creates a file that is self contained and can therefore be easily moved between Macintosh computers.

I would recommend doing this. Get the three tracks to playback at 24bits properly in as small amount of time as possible. Use delete time or clear to trim portions of the audio irrelevant to this experiment. Be sure that the remaining section still exhibits this problem when mixing. Then save as bundle to 'test.bndl' or something like that and email it to me. It is okay to either send it as 4 tracks 3 24 bit and 1 16 (the mix) or as just the 3 24 bit tracks.

Okay I received the .bndl file and while it mixes fine on the PPC it totally screws up on the Intel Mac. I have found and fixed this problem in Metro 6.3.5.2 and later. Note that the original information you supplied was slightly incorrect. The sample rate must be the same in the destination and the source or else it will work fine. In your case your source files are 24 bit 44.1k and you are mixing to 16 bit 44.1k. This was the bad case for intel macs only. Note also that you do not need to mix more than even one track for this to manifest itself.

i thought i had set the audio to be 48khz, but i noticed last night that it was 44.1khz. sorry to mislead you.
Great to know that you are on to it so fast! I read another post saying what great value this sort of service has. i completely agree.
it's something that would be very hard for a large company to match.
