Metro LX 6.35 Installer...

Postby w » Sun Mar 12, 2006 1:22 pm

I've just ( Mar 12, 2006 11:14 AM ) downloaded the Metro LX UB prerelease version 6.35 and was surprised that it comes as or looks like one of those pkg Installers ( open brown box icon ).

Is there any special reason that it is now issued as a pkg installer?

I'm somewhat concerned because I like to know what and where pieces are being patched and placed in my OS X 10.4.4.

Hello w,

The LX installer only places files in Applications:Metro LX Folder

It may also place a receipt named Metro LX Installer.pkg in startupdrive:library:receipts.

That's it. However the Metro full version also installs the Aloisen font in library:fonts

The reason for the installer is that is saves the user one or more steps. Which is also less things to get wrong.

Having downloaded Metro again last night, the installer uses the word upgrade in the installing process........maybe because I have a .plist and prefs for it already.

Then launching said it was being run for the first time........do you want to continue? Pretty strange if its an upgrade.

Was last weeks Metro 6.3.4? I think that's what the info box said.

I just ran the LX installer and now I've got a folder named " Install_resources ". And within that folder there are 2 appliescripts ( openfolder and postflightAS ) and Unix file ( postflight )

Was that done by your LX installer?

Is there any reason for me to keep that folder?

Or can I trash that Install_resources folder?

whoops.

Yes, it is safe to trash those and license.rtf and welcome.rtf. That will be fixed in the next installer.

Thank you for finding that.
