Help! New Metro LX

Postby GSpro » Sat Mar 04, 2006 3:08 pm

Hello forum, hello Jeremy if I may call you by your first name.
I have some questions but before I go any further I'd like to say:

I purchased MetroLX on Saturday I've been running it for about 10 Hours without a crash or a glitch, something that DP could not do. I'm very impressed at the small footprint of the application itself, memory usage and speed. Just out of this world. I thought apps like this were no longer built this small anymore. My compliments to the programmer(s).
Now back to work. I need some answers   :D

#1 Is it possible to display the Instrument Name in the Mixer Window?
In the Track Window I'm able to type the Instr.Name in the Name Column.

#2 When I first open a Midi file in the Track Window, lets say I only recorded 5 Tracks,
Is it possible to delete the other 43 left unused in the Track Window?
I figured it out how to do it in the Mixer Window.

#3 How to display the actual Instrument Name in the PGM column?
According to the Manual, point and click should see the Instr. Name, instead I get Inc. or Dec. number. In the Bank Column I should only see Variation #. Is that correct?
I have opend the .ins files for the SC-8850 and saved it in the Program folder.
Did I miss something somewhere?

#4 In the Graphic Editor lets say I want to create a fade at the end of a song with either CC 7 (Volume) or using the (Expression) CC 11 is there a way to draw that manually?
If so, how?

BTW I strictly use midi

Many thanks in advance

I am a bit confused :? . Did you try double-clcking the output name in the mixer window to name the output? Or perhaps you just want to option-click the name field to name the track.

GSpro wrote:#2Is it possible to delete the other 43 left unused in the Track Window?

This is not necessary. Tracks with no data on them do not actually exist. It is a mere illusion.

GSpro wrote:#3 How to display the actual Instrument Name in the PGM column?

If you are seeing the names in the graphic editor popup then you probably just need to lengthen the width of the program name field in the tracks window. Otherwise see this and save preferences after all the program names are correct so that you do not have to re-load them next time you start Metro LX.

In the graphic editor where it says 'notes' in the track title bar, select controller, select volume(cc7) and then with the pencil tool , draw or control-draw to draw straight lines.

in reference to question 4.........

If you had a midi or audio track displayed in the graphic editor, look just to the left of the bar numbers (above the track title) and you see a plus sign (+). Click that and all of a sudden you get a second track untitled 2.

Click on the untitled 2 name popup and change it to 1 and now you have 2 views of the same track.

You could keep adding additional views of the same track and display the pan on one, the volume on another or effect parameters from 3rd party tools.

Just click the box on the left to remove the extra display.

With midi tracks you have the option to display controller data from the NOTES popup. Choose Controller: then let go......then you can choose the controllers by title to the right alongside "Controller:"

Every parameter which contains information for the particular track has a * alongside it.

Wow. This forum is amazing. What use to take days on other forums, here takes less then 24 hours.
I also really appreciate the fact that Jeremy gets really involved. I wish I would have known about Metro years ago. I had Metro for about a day now and let me say that it is a total pleasure to work with. Ijust need some time to get used to it and hopefully I'll be able to help others.
Thank you so very much SCOOT.

Just one thing.............LX may not allow full automation....but you'd get the idea.
Once you get up and going with LX, it may be time to upgrade.

But it is always great to watch the faders move by themselves.
