Metro prerelease 6.3.3 now available

Postby Jerm » Mon Dec 19, 2005 1:12 pm

Upgrades from 6.2 are free. All new purchases include access to this version. There is an upgrade price of $34.99 to upgrade any flavor of Metro from 6.x to 6.3.3.

Download it here:

IMPORTANT: The official system requirements have changed as of 6.1.

IMPORTANT: Metro Documents written with this version will NOT be readable in any version prior to Metro/Metro SE version 6.3.2.

IMPORTANT: This prerelease (Metro and Metro SE) still works under OS 9 but we are no longer providing Tech support for OS 9. This will most likely be the last OS 9 release as it is getting increasingly harder to support OS 9.

IMPORTANT: This is a prerelease, meaning it has some bug fixes (and possibly features) that were deemed important enough to be released before it could be rigorously tested.

We want our software to be bug free. If you find any bugs please report them here.

The following list includes changes to Metro, Metro SE and Metro LX. Some changes may not be applicable to specific products.

New to this version: 6.3.3
• New: Support for format converter Audio Units. This is a special kind of AudioUnit whereby amount of input audio data is not always equal to the amount of output audio data. In OS 10.4 (a.k.a. Tiger) Apple released an incredible Time/Pitch stretching audio unit that is completely supported. This AudioUnit, when available, is now used as the default for Metro's time stretching and transposition of audio. It can also be used for audio scrubbing as noted below.
• New: Audio Scrubbing under OS X is now functional. There are 3 types of scrubbing. With the mouse down in the audio area of the graphic editor and scrubbing enabled in the switches menu, the scrub mode can be selected with the following keys:
'A' - Normal Scrub. 'S'- Unity Scrub, this limits the playback speed to a maximum rate of normal allowing playback forward and reverse to follow the cursor. Option - Shuttle Scrub.
• New: The continuous data dialog now allows exact ranges of floating point values to be entered depending on the selected parameter. For AudioUnit and VST automation this makes it possible to set exact values.
• New: Locking fast forward, no pitch change fast forward (under Tiger only) and other options. Control-click the fast forward button for options. The setting here affects audio scrubbing as well.
• New: Minor cosmetic changed to the graphic editor audio display.
• New: Audio regions can have names and those names are now displayed in the graphic editor. To edit them, double click on the audio region.
• New: the meaning of bypassing a MIDI soft synth effect has changed so that the audio is bypassed and so are the
MIDI notes but program changes and other non-sounding events are passed through. Previously all events were filtered while bypass was enabled.
• New: This is the first version of Metro that uses Carbon Events. This should result in performance improvements.
• New: The graphic editor, tracks window and event list editor displays are updated quicker upon opening a Metro document.
• New: It is now possible to drag files from the jukebox or the plug-ins window without bringing the window to the front.
• New: Zooming in the graphic editor is improved as discussed in the Metro feature request forum.
• New: The cursor changes to a hand when in audio region editing mode in the graphic editor and a resize cursor when over the region drag handles.
• New: The offline plug-in menu is now sorted by the last sorted method in the plug-ins window.
• New: Dragging sections in the sections window will not save the sections to the undo history if the command key is held down. For huge files this could be very slow while it devours all of available memory.
• New: Double clicking on a pan knob or a volume slider in the mixer window returns it to its default value.
• New: Note pad actions are now totally undoable including typing, clearing, cutting and pasting.
• New: Changing the setting 'Plug in Manages Presets' in the plug-ins window now deletes all current presets until the plug-in is reinstantiated.

• Fixed: a crash could have occurred while dragging an audio sample in real time (while playing).
• Fixed: a crash could have occurred while searching for valid VST presets.
• Fixed: a crash could have occurred trying to save a .ins file after opening it from the program names dialog.
• Fixed: a crash could have occurred while trying to drag audio regions on a frozen audio track.
• Fixed: a crash could have occurred while trying to expand channels on an empty track.
• Fixed: a crash could have occurred while transposing a selection consisting of both MIDI and Audio tracks. This problem was introduced in 6.3.1.
• Fixed: for LX and SE the number of instances of synths or other plug-ins is now always calculated correctly. Before it was possible that the calculation was including plugs loaded in the undo or clipboard buffers.
• Fixed: a possible data corruption could have occurred when resizing an audio region when there was only a single region in a track.
• Fixed: Metro now detects the audio device maximum packet sizes and displays only the proper values.
• Fixed: Metro now correctly uninitializes AudioUnits before setting their maximum audio packet size. This means it is now possible to set the maximum packet size as high as 4096. When set to a value higher than 1024 however a bug in Quicktime prevents the internal channels from working properly.
• Fixed: Opening certain older Metro documents was not working right.
• Fixed: Previewing quantize multiple times was, in some instances, changing the selection and/or selected tracks.
• Fixed: Entering 0 bars for the length of a looped audio track could result in a hang.
• Fixed: Offline effects processing was not configuring AudioUnit plug-ins to the correct number of outputs in some cases, causing strange results.
• Fixed: Latency is accounted for when audio is processed using offline effects.
• Fixed: Metro reports the transport state more accurately to AudioUnits.
• Fixed: Metro was not updating program changes in the graphic editor for soft synths.
• Fixed: Automation was not accounting for differing sample rates in some cases.
• Fixed: Metro was not setting the input sample rate for AU plug-ins. In some rare cases this could cause a problem with the plug-ins functionality.
• Fixed: Presets mapped to program changes were not properly being updated for certain VST plug-ins.
• Fixed: More accurate information is passed to VST plug-ins regarding whether or not Metro is playing or not. This has an impact on certain plug-ins, namely µTonic.
• Fixed: Improved drum handling in the Rhythm Explorer. Auto entry of chords at a place in the song other than the beginning is also now possible.
• Fixed: Improved cue looping.
• Fixed: Canceling out of long file operations with the 'Esc' key was not working if the caps lock key was enabled.
• Fixed: The internal Metronome was not being initialized properly in some cases.
• Fixed: Upon startup the plug-ins window is scrolled to the same position it was upon last quitting Metro.
• Fixed: Dragging audio regions while zoomed in very far with graphic editor quantizing on, was not working properly.
• Fixed: Deleting data in the graphic editor would delete effect automation data even if that data were not selected.
• Fixed: Improved naming of automatically generated output ports for soft synths so that multiple instances of the same plug-in are not named the same.
• Fixed: The playback bar was, in some cases, appearing in an incorrect place when a soft-synth track had independent loops.
• Fixed: After entering custom names in the 'core audio:device option:enter channel names' dialog, the names would not be updated until all dialogs were closed and then reopened.
• Fixed: In some cases after playing or recording with software audio thru on an aux buss, thru would be disabled on some audio channels.
• Fixed: Other software audio through improvements.
• Fixed: Shifting audio data while zoomed in very far could cause problems in the overview display when zooming out.
• Fixed: A possible memory corruption when using 24 bit audio.
• Fixed: Changing an output from a soft synth to an audio output was, in some cases, causing weird problems.
• Fixed: On-the-fly recording. If an error occurred, like in the case of no record enabled track, audio started to play even though the play button was not enabled in the transport.
• Fixed: Window sizes could be out of range in certain cases.
• Fixed: Track names were not being inherited properly after an audio file was dragged to an empty track in the graphic editor or tracks window.
• Fixed: Delete Time was not always working correctly when a track contained independent track loops.
• Fixed: Copying of movies (as in copy/paste) has been broken since 6.2.3.
• Fixed: Movie thumbnails (video caching) are vastly improved and faster. Syncing using the time method is also improved.
• Fixed: The movie sync method is now saved with preferences. Other miscellaneous movie handling improvements.
• Fixed: Quantize preview was, in some cases, purging the undo history.
• Fixed: The track name was not always being set properly after after a file drag.
• Fixed: Undo was in some cases, changing the track selection.
• Fixed: It was possible that the port change dialog would pop up unnecessarily when a file was closed.
• Fixed: If the mixer page was set to other than main, the aux pan knobs were not always displaying the correct values.
• Fixed: Dynamically created program names like those provided by instances of Apple's DLS MusicDevice are now properly created and destroyed.
• Fixed: Other overall stability and cosmetic improvements.
