Metro SE 6.3.2.2.-Clearing synths/PlugIns

Postby Chris » Wed Sep 07, 2005 5:32 am

If I have used a soft synth in a document, and then want to use a plugin or six, I can't clear the synth from a. The pop up window in the Graphic editor, or b. by deleting it from the Effects/Synths window. In both cases it shows it as having "Gone", but it seems not to have

The only way that I can do it is by undoing the Insert from the Edit menu.

That's fine with a new document, or , I presume with a saved one without either synth, or plugins, but if I've opened a previously saved document that already has a synth saved with it, I'm stuffed, if I should want to use a plugin in SE, which warns me that I can only use 2 synths OR up to 8 plugins. Not both together.

Am I being dumb here? I'm working through the manual, stage by stage, to get it right, but I haven't found a way to overcome this one yet.

Also:

The OS X VST plug-ins folder alias does not point to the 'Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST'.
In fact it can't find the original.
Is this because I'm running Metro from a partition on the HD?
I don't even get the option to fix the alias.
However, Metro is finding the plug-ins from 'Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST', and they, with the exception of the Waves Audiotrack VST plug in, work OK.
If I should try to load the Waves plug-in, Metro Crashes, every time.

I can't move the plug-ins to the alias folder, obviously, because it's an "orphan"
Is this a situation where I create a new OSX VST plug-ins alias in the Metro folder pointing to Library/audio/plug-ins/VST, accordiing to the "Read Me OS X" ?

Hoping for some help

Chris

I don't really understand what you are saying here. If you clear the plug-in it is gone except that it is still in the undo history so you can retrieve it through undo. If you want to purge the plug completely, save and then re-open the document.

You can simply create a new one or delete it then. This is provided as a convenience but apparently, in your case, is an inconvenience.

Have you contacted Waves?

For deleting effects in the plugin window, you click on the name, it highlights and then you hit delete and the effect is gone.

If you place an instrument on the track and delete it, it will probably turn off the port.

You can also drag the name of effect 3 and move it to effect 2 to swap the order round.

This is metro rather than SE.........I have no access to that.
(Are you saying you're not getting back the number of effects available in SE? So when you delete them you cannot use new ones???)

As far as the alias thing goes.........get your alias working right and from then on when downloading updates, expand them, and just throw the new metro app into your previous metro folder. Everything else remains the same.

I've tested my OSX alias and it takes me to my second SCSI drive instead of the main drive. I don't really care though cause back in the dawn of time I set up a folder of most used aliases and put it in the dock........thus getting to the VST folder without opening the metro one first.

Scoot. Thanks for your input

So it appears, Unless I undo the insert from the Edit menu. which can mean that I lose any previous edits as well

Clearing it from the Effects/Synths window or from the Graphic Editor Pop up, "looks" as if it does, but I get the invitation to contact Sagan to upgrade to the full version, when I try to load a new one. (Ha. A marketing ploy)
I'll carry on testing.

I'm not too bothered by this. It was only because the "Waves" VSTplug in crashed Metro, that I was looking for the reasons.
Jerm eloquently suggested that the OS X VST folder could be substituted for a new one, which I shall try, to see if that was the prob with the Waves plug, or if I should try contacting "Waves" :(

for whatever reason, then "convenient" folder alias can't find the original. That isn't such a big deal.

Perhaps when I'm in NZ next year, you could give me some 1-2-1 tuition.
I'm gettiing too old, and started too late, for this complicated stuff :)
