automatically update note value in step time recording

Postby hrvatski » Fri Mar 28, 2003 5:04 pm

one thing that would just be the icing on the cake for me, or anyone that does a fair bit of step-time recording... would be being able to click once in the note value box then type 3 digit ppq values (or use the up/down left/right arrow keys) and have the program automatically activate the displayed value without having to hit enter, then re-click in the note value box with the mouse each time i want a new ppq/note-length value.

i know this seems rather nit-picking but in actuality it would save me hours...

I guess I am not understanding this request. Is the only thing you do not like the press of enter? Is that the only change you are suggesting?

Have you tried using the remote control window? It will allow selections of standard note types 1/4, 1/8, etc. Also the keys 2,3,4,6,8 correspond to 1/2, triplet, 1/4,1/16 and 1/8th respectively.

not just having to press enter again, but clicking to activate the field again.

i know about the standard note length shortcuts. what i'm looking for is a bit more precision...

for example, if i want to create a 'bouncing ball' type effect, i'd start with a quarter note with a 240 ppq value, then a note with slightly less, say 236, etc... until i get down to next-to-nothing. every time i enter in a new value, i need to click in the ppq length field, then type in the new value, then hit enter, then click in it again to enter the next value. in vision, in the step time note entry box, you simply need to type in a value, then press the down arrow to make it 'active', then simply press the up arrow to go back into the field. this keeps my right hand on the 10-key and the left on the midi controller, i don't have to reach for the mouse between each note.

i go back and draw in controller values later on... speaking of which, is there a way to draw a straight line across control data in the way that the exponential curves work?

sorry if this has all been covered before. or if this is plainly possible. i'm new to the program/board...

Ok. I am starting to understand. You want the intermediate value to be used for step entry before it is completely entered. Is that right?

To draw straight lines, hold down the control key while drawing.
