Automation Questions

Postby MP » Sat Jul 16, 2005 4:36 pm

Hi All,

I'm trying to get a handle on automation and have been successful in some areas and not in others. Here's my experience thus far:

I can automate a virtual instrument's midi channel fader.

I cannot automate its assigned Metro audio output fader.

I can automate an audio track's fader.

I cannot automate an aux fader.

Is this expected behavior for automation? If so, is it because a fader needs a corresponding track in order to store the automation?

One last question . . . if I group a midi channel fader (which is automated) with a Metro audio output fader, should the Metro audio output fader now automate?

Thanks,

Mike

I cannot automate an aux either. Bug perhaps?

The issue of grouping faders is a good one. A quick work around for now would be to copy and paste the automation from one to the other.

This I believe is an issue dependant on the plugin.
When you have your plugin in the effects window, ensure next to its name you see a 5 pin midi plug. Double click it and see which midi data you're sending.

If you don't see the midi plug you don't have the option.

Yes. This is currently how it works for softsynths that have no audio inputs. For audio tracks you can automate the output fader and the aux send. I don't think there is support for automating the aux return faders. However you can do exactly what you want by automating the EFX (or softsynth) wet fader in the EFX window.
