Please post any ideas for new features in Metro or Metro SE here.

Multiple Controllers and Midi to Record Enabled Tracks

Postby MP » Wed Jul 06, 2005 3:52 pm

Hi Jeremy,

Just a couple of ideas . . . I would like to be able to do the following things in Metro:

Assign unique midi input devices to tracks (so I can trigger multiple synths using multiple controllers).

Pass midi through to multiple record-enabled tracks so I can trigger more than one synth with the same controller.

Thanks,

Mike

I need to think about this but it seems like these are both the same. The ability to select an input device for each track.

Yes . . . also with the ability to record on multiple tracks at once.

Thanks for considering the idea!

This ability already exists.

Well I have this implemented in 6.3.2. It is rather quite nice and because of the implementation it also addresses your other request. By selecting the same MIDI inputs for multiple tracks and record enabling them layers are created and can be recorded.

The implementation renames the audio input select column of the tracks window to simply "input select" and a list of MIDI devices appears for MIDI tracks. If you record enable more than one MIDI track and automatic MIDI thru is on, the transport show 'multi' and throughs are routed from the selected input device to the selected output device and channelized if a Metro output is assigned.

The only drawback is the extensive amount of changes required to make this work. These changes impacts all aspects of recording and MIDI though and the potential for bugs creeping in is very high. For that reason it will be a while before all parts of the program affected by these changes will be adequately tested.

Thanks Jeremy! I really like the way you have implemented these new features. Sorry it took me so long to respond to this thread . . . I missed your post. Thanks again.
