Question about a method with Metro and Live

Postby rickchaff » Mon May 02, 2005 10:46 am

Hi

I generally use Metro as a live midi recorder never using a metronome and do several takes. I hate a locked tempo. Music, in my opinion, needs to breathe. After all it is a temporal art form.

I would like to get rewired to Live after laying down my basic tracks in Metro and then record record vocals and guitar in Live.

MY QUESTION:
If I change the tempo in Metro will the midi tracks in Metro remain in sync with the audio in Live?

If this is possible it would be the perfect method for me.

If not, is there another way to record midi live
(without metronome) and audio and be able to change the tempo and have all tracks stay in sync?

Thanks in advance for your responses,

Rick

I think not but this may be a bug in Metro's rewire implementation. When I get time I will take a look at this. Does Live usually modify the audio when the tempo is changed?

The basic problem is that when the tempo of audio is changed, the pitch is also inherently changed. You could do what you want with time-pitch stretch (scale time) or you could use a slice it up approach with a plug-in like phatmatik pro. Also programs like Acid , Garage band and I thought Live, supposedly do this pretty well. How well they do it I do not know.

There was no support prior to Metro 6.3 of sending the tempo or time and key signatures to the rewire slave. Metro 6.3 will remedy this. Whether this addition fixes what you are experiencing with Live I don't know.

Does Live support multiple time signatures in a single document? It appears that Reason does not.

6.3 should be out by the end of next week.

Nope, Live doesn't support multiple time sigs in a document.
