monitoring

Postby Biffer » Sat Apr 16, 2005 11:03 am

I haven't been recording for a while now and just hooked everything back up. Here is my problem. I can't remember how to monitor my mic while listening to a previously recorded track. I have everything going in and out firewire to a moto 828. Is there some kind of playthrough button or something that will allow me to hear and record myself singing while listening to the previously recorded piano? I'm using metro 6.2.1

Thanks

Do you have an external mixer?

Yes. Is that the way to do it then? Through the mixer?

The best way is to do it through the mixer. I would connect the mixer output to the computer input and the computer output to the mixer input. Then all monitoring can be done with the mixer.

Another possibility, if you have an aux out on the mixer, is to connect the aux out from the mixer to the computer. Then when you want to route individual mixer output channels to the computer you can have them output to the aux out and when you want the total mix you can route all channels to the aux out.

Even more possibilitied arise if you have an audio card with more that one stereo input.

Your 828 can do the monitoring internally. Just fire up the MOTU FireWire console and select the channel pair to be monitored. Set the monitor level with the front panel knob.
