SampleTank2 Problem

Postby fastlanephil » Fri Mar 04, 2005 12:28 am

I replaced a instrument from ST2 with another from ST2 and am getting a scrambled sound again. I have tried moving it to another track but the problem seems to be with the data on that original track. When I pasted the midi data into the beginning of a new track it would play fine until about the third bar. Then the sound would scrambled again.

I notice I have a duplication of the ST2 outputs when I click on the Outputs in the Tracks window.

Any idea what is going on?

Phil,

Since ST2 embedded data is completely portable, email me the Metro document for analysis. Try to create the smallest document that still exhibits the problem. There is no reason to include any external audio for now.

Are you talking about old and new instances of the outputs?

You can end up in all sorts of confusion if you just go about by placing an effect on a track, deleting it and then putting it somewhere else.

Sampletank2-1

remove it then add 2 more and you end up in the output dialog with

[Sampletank2-1]
Sampletank2-2
Sampletank2-3

Or did you allocate say 16 outputs to sampletank and then did it again without saying replace existing? (replace existing removes all the others as well).

SampleTank2 Problem

Jerm,

I sent the problem file.

Scoot,

I know you can get a bunch of them in the output list if you drag and delete. I think you get SampleTank2 1-16, SampleTank3 1-16, ect. But somehow I have two SampleTank2 1-16 in a row.

I opened the document and I guess you have some ST2 sounds I do not have installed because I got some errors loading it. I then assign a solo violin to channel 9 and it seemed to play ok. I did notice (go to the event editor to see) that you have a bunch of duplicated notes on the one track in the document.
Perhaps it is a memory problem that I am not seeing because of the missing ST2 sounds.

I am not sure what you mean by scrambled sound? If you are getting pops because the processor is strained, be sure to increase your audio packet size in the digital audio device options dialog. Also with ST2 it is important to turn off the reverbs on each individual MIDI channel if you are using a lot of different instruments. Then output those instruments to a different aux buss and place a reverb there. This will save a lot on processor time.

That instrument is from the Symphony Strings expansion set. I forgot it wasn't a standard ST2 instrument. Those duplicate notes are what I want there. It's not a memory or CPU problem. I'll send a short aiff of the problem so you can hear what it is doing and if I have the problem with a ST2 standard instrument i'll send the track to you.

Well I heard the sample of audio and cannot tell exactly what is wrong with it. Have you tried putting the duplicate notes on a separate MIDI channel using the same sound?

Iv'e tried moving the notes a few times but it won't solve the problem. It seems to be happening with that string set but that may be because it's what I keep changing instruments with, trying to get the sound I want. Looks like I have an unusual problem here so i'll try recreating it and try and find where it originates from or at least how to avoid it.
