Working audio tracks in mp3 rather than converted to AIFF.
unless the ability is already there.

If it isn't there........why do I want it?

If I start in mp3 and want to end up in mp3, why convert it? :)

Performance. MP3 is compressed. This requires work to decompress it, calculate positions, and more. Besides MP3 is a proprietary format that you need to pay a license for just to use. We only support it because Quicktime has a read-only license and the LAME encoder is available separately.
